In context this scene makes total sense and shows that jean claude van damme is a really good actor.

ill mix things up a bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLvIFRNbqOs is it a monoloque or an actual conversation?
You know, I've always considered him and the movies he's been in to be a joke. Maybe he made some poor career choices. That monologue is pretty good. It makes me curious to see more. What movie is the monologue from?
[QUOTE="D3nnyCrane"]Either this one from RocknRolla: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfMByKyBmns Or the Trainspotting finale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiA_yVBjC5kFilm-Guy
The Trainspotting one is a good choice, shame the sequel never got made.
I also wanted to include Brick Top's corpse disposal from Snatch but didn't wanna get greedy... "Do you know what nemesis means...?"movie: When a man falls in a forest
actor: timothy hutton
scene: he leaves a really long message to his estranged wife (sharon stone) on their answering machine where he pours his heart out. (his inability to express his feelings has caused the marriage collapse) it would change everything. when she starts to play the message and hears it's him - she just hits delete.
it's an amazing monologue. (sorry no youtube)

StrawberryHill
Its from JCVD. Came out last year and to me it does to Van Damme what The Wrestler did to Mickey Rourke except more impressive imo because Mickey Rourke was always good, it just took people a while to remember he was still alive i guess.

Mickey Rourke's performance was leagues ahead of Van Damme's. It's not that everyone didn't know about Rourke, they did, it's that it was his greatest achievement in his career. He had never given a performance that good.[QUOTE="Film-Guy"][QUOTE="StrawberryHill"]

I still think Rourke's best acting role though is Angel Heart. If you haven't seen it yet you should, he is amazing in that.

He had never given a performance that good.I actually love, and always have loved Mickey Rourke. Rumble Fish is a great movie. Rourke had a charisma and acting talent that has always been there. I haven't seen that in Van Damme. His acting has always been tongue and cheek fodder, in my opinion. Still, the monologue is good. I want to see the movie now.
Van Damme did impress me. It's just that Rourke's career and life weren't doing too well, then we see him in The Wrestler, where you can obviously see the similarities between his personal life and his performance. I loved him in Angel Heart. He was great in Sin City, too. I'm glad he's at the top of his game again.I'm not saying Van Damme was better, I just meant to say that it was more impressive to me in a way because I have never seen him act well before while I usually see Rourke act very well. I hope The Wrestler brings more good roles his way, he is a fantastic actor. Even though Angel Heart is nowhere near as good as the book, Rourke was the perfect choice for the main character.

The endiing of Psycho was pretty good, Mr. Smith Goes To Washington had Stewart giving a really good monologue too.
I'll hit you movie snobs with this:

lol j/k (about the snobs part, at least)
Seriously though, I've never seen any of the movies in this thread, and I do love V for Vendetta. :P
I just saw that two days ago (JCVD) and I think it was definitely one of the best ones I've seen recently.
I can't find Alex singing Singing in the Rain in A Clockwork Oragnge. Possibly one of the best (and scariest) scenes in the history of movies.blackngold29That's not a monologue, but I agree, it's one of the best scenes in the history of film.
I've seen horrors... horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer. You have a right to kill me. You have a right to do that... but you have no right to judge me. It's impossible for words to describe what is necessary to those who do not know what horror means. Horror. Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror. Horror and moral terror are your friends. If they are not then they are enemies to be feared. They are truly enemies. I remember when I was with Special Forces. Seems a thousand centuries ago. We went into a camp to inoculate the children. We left the camp after we had inoculated the children for Polio, and this old man came running after us and he was crying. He couldn't see. We went back there and they had come and hacked off every inoculated arm. There they were in a pile. A pile of little arms. And I remember... I... I... I cried. I wept like some grandmother. I wanted to tear my teeth out. I didn't know what I wanted to do. And I want to remember it. I never want to forget it. I never want to forget. And then I realized... like I was shot... like I was shot with a diamond... a diamond bullet right through my forehead. And I thought: My God... the genius of that. The genius. The will to do that. Perfect, genuine, complete, crystalline, pure. And then I realized they were stronger than we. Because they could stand that these were not monsters. These were men... trained cadres. These men who fought with their hearts, who had families, who had children, who were filled with love... but they had the strength... the strength... to do that. If I had ten divisions of those men our troubles here would be over very quickly. You have to have men who are moral... and at the same time who are able to utilize their primordial instincts to kill without feeling... without passion... without judgment... without judgment. Because it's judgment that defeats us.
Kurtz- Apocalypse Now
One great one is the monologue by Sheriff Bell at the end of No Country for Old Men, although it was actually even better in its original form (in the novel).chessmaster1989
Yeah the novel version was great. Heck the whole novel was great. I actually just started reading Blood Meridan thanks to your recommendaton:D I love it so far, like all of his novels.
I was thinking about making a thread like this a while back. Anyway, my favourites are the opening morning scene in American Psycho and of course the opening to A Clockwork Orange. Oh and of course the mirror scene in 25th Hour and numerous ones in Apocalypse Now.

I liked American Psycho's monologues.

Kurtz- Apocalypse Now

Much better when heard and seen.
Col. Kurtz's monologue on horror
You guys are all wrong, the best monologue in a movie is: Raul Julia / General M. Bison where hw explain his visions of "Pax Bisonica". "I want to create the perfect soldier, not for evil... But for good! ...[insert rest of speech]... It will swipe away every nation, every creed, and put it in the loving grace of Pax Bisonica! And everyone will bow to ME". Paraphrased-ish.
And later where he has fought Guile, been beaten and resurrected. "You came here prepared to fight a madman, but insted you met a god!"
Well that ends this discussion and everyone will agree.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIjpP-XngKA not sure if it totally qualifies as a mono.
