are they any good? I loved johnny cash's hurt

The downward spiral is the album with hurt on. Personally I prefered the NIN version of "hurt". I just tend to like the originals alot more than covers, the songs seem to lose their meanings if they are advocated by somebody else. I think Cash made it his own still, but I prefer the NIN version still =)

The people have spoken. Pretty Hate Machine and the Downward Spiral really are the pinnacle of NIN's career. I'd check out the track listings and the release dates and make a choice of which one to go after first. I think I'd suggest Downward Spiral, but i don't have the track list comparison in front of me.
Another option would be to creat a pandora radio station and do some research on the music genome website.
Enjoy!
The Downward Spiral is the best. Followed by The Fragile. Although the most accessible is With_Teeth, I advise a start with those two.
Other albums to look into include Broken for the heavier side, Pretty Hate Machine for the poppier side and Year Zero for the new sound side. Also Ghosts is a fantastic instrumental album, but I;m not sure how much of it they will play live.
There you are, Samwel. I'm suprised this is the first time you posted in here.
I'm going to Best Buy today, I'll probably get those first two.

Awesome... You may have to listen to The Fragile afew times to properly get into it, The Downward Spiral you should have few problems with :)
The Fragile, although the most accessible one is probably Pretty Hate Machine, which probably is the most "pop" sounding of his albums.
The Fragile is one of those albums where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, somewhat like Pink Floyd's The Wall, where I mean some tracks wouldn't really stand well on their own but they work within the context of the whole album. I'm also not sure that The Fragile would make quite as much sense without already being familiar with earlier Nine Inch Nails albums.
While his albums all have a certain tone to them and a distinctive reliance upon sound samples, musically they are all quite different, with the two that are closest to each other musically probably being Broken and Pretty Hate Machine.
I will have to say that with_teeth is his most memorable work. His most corrupt was The Downward Spiral. The most confusing was The Fragile. Trents best work though would have to be with_teeth for its beauty. He went through so much to get where he did to write with_teeth. It is truely a master piece if you truely understand Trent Reznor and his past.xNJN
That's funny, because With_Teeth was a major disapointment when it came out. Take it from a long time NIN fan.
