Best rock band of all time

What are your favorite(s)? This is purely opinionated.

Of actual rock, Zep would probably be mine.

Since no band formed within the last 20 years would even come close to counting in such a discussion, I'd have to go with either Zep or The Beatles later in their career, but I like Floyd, as well.

The Beatles, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, or Queen.

Also, if Foo Fighters can keep pumping out quality albums for another decade, they will be in the discussion. You also have to give props to Aerosmith, The Clash, The Pixies, and Black Sabbath.

You just listed five of my favorite bands: The Clash, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen and The Who. You should have mentioned the Stones too. :P

But in my opinion there is one band that beats all of those, R.E.M. :D

Metallica is certainly not the best metal. Even for thrash. Megadeth blows them out of the water in terms of thrash.

For metal, it's either Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath.
