This is an awful post. Where to begin. There is absolutely NO WAY to find the objectively greatest song. It is ludicrous to pretend that we can narrow it down to popular songs.

As for Springsteen, he was, in fact, highly influential to American Rock. One of your 'criteria', that it isn't his best song, is an OPINION. How can an opinion factor into objectivity? In my opinion, it is his best song, in fact that's the opinion of most of his fans. Your last sentence perfectly describes Thunder Road.

good song, but why best song ever? its not very influential, its not his best song, he wasn't highly influential, it wasn't extrordinarily popular.. it dosn't meet any of the criteria for best song ever. on the other hand a top song from a highly influential artist that held popularity for a long time and pretty much reflects an era of time, can be considered a nominee for a " best song" list.tormentor313

I'm more of the opinion that songs are to be judged by their musical attributes when considering their quality, not by popularity or social effect. Lots of terrible music is influential and/or popular, which leads to the production of more terrible music. As for the "best song" list, it's rather meaningless, since no criteria have been laid down for the title.
