Well a new survey suggest that North Dakota may be the best state to live in.

Unlike 42 states that are struggling with big budget deficits, ND actually has a budget surplus and may reduce income taxes (by the way CT where I live is raising the gas tax by 2 cents a gallon and the hotel tax from 12 to 14% if the governor has his way).

North Dakota has a stable housing, market, the lowest credit card default rate, low violent crime and a low unemployment rate (a mere 3.8% when some states are over 10%).

Is North Dakota the best state to live in? They got oil and wheat which is partly why they have so much money.

I lived there for 24 years. It's great.

However Fargo was just voted the harshest city in the U.S.

What's wrong with North Dakota. Sorry if it ain't like New York or California where the states are broke, the unemployment rate is high and you need a flak jacket to walk through certain neighborhoods.

Different strokes for different... you know... And I'd rather live in NY or Cali than out in the middle of nowhere. There's actually a reason why these two places are the most populous states in the country. People actually like being there.

It's not that bad. The city I lived in had 60k people. Fargo has 100k now I believe.

Oh, and TC - you might want to add the benefits of getting disproportionate representation in Congress, due to the small population. That can't be a bad thing.

That's all nice and dandy for the aggregate population, but what about the individual whose skills are in demand, and whose paycheck affords him opportunity to choose the neighborhood of his choice?
