My favorite two underrated, or just not well known sci-fi movies!
I'm a sucker for Jude Law ;).
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Gattaca is hardly underrated, everyone who has seen it that I know of praises it. If anything it is just undermentioned.
Moon - purely for Sam Rockwell's performance though. biggest_loserIt was a good movie. Plot was a bit "meh" though.

Solaris isn't underrated, it's very well known and made by James Cameron for god's sake.
My vote goes to Sunshine. It got practically no press and didn't even open in all theatres (from what I remember) but I loved it.

"The Time Out Film Guide describes this version as superior to the Tarkovsky version. However, the overall critical reception and popular votes do not share this opinion. Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 65 percent fresh approval rating, which is far from that of the Tarkovsky's adaptation, which earned a 97 percent rating. The Internet Movie Database user ratings for the two versions are 6.2 and 8.0, respectively, while Yahoo! Movies user ratings are C and A, respectively."
*takes your hand* I´ll walk you through this quickly. :)
Now, this is the thread title: "Best underrated sci-fi movies?"
Question:
Do you know what "rating" means?
If so, you could try and differentiate that definition with ´well known´.
I didn't think we were talking about critical reception. Critical reception is heavy slated towards artsy oscar-bait movies and away from mainstream movies. A mainstream action movie that everyone watched and liked but that got panned by reviewers isn't usually referred to as underrated.F1_2004
Alright, i´ll pretend that today ´well known´ is a synonym to a parameter of quality rating, and not a parameter dealing with quantities like it does under any other normal circumstances.
All for you! :3
Really? I actually had a lot of problems with Sunshine. The first half was really cool, then it just lost its focus and purpose imo. The part where he was standing in front of the surface of the sun for like 5 seconds without melting or colliding with it (kinda on a moving spaceship..) was when I stopped cutting it slack :?. Really loved the first half though.Solaris isn't underrated, it's very well known and made by James Cameron for god's sake.

The Man from earthFilm-GuyI'm mainly quoting you so I can tag this for future reference. I feel that this film though, judging by IMDB, is overrated if anything. Primer is great however,if not relatively hard to follow.
edit-quoted wrong film

Really loved the first half though. I don't remember that part. Is that near the end where the ship is accelerating into the sun at crazy speeds? That that point, the film got very "fiction", but it's hard to fault it when in reality the ship probably would have burnt to a crisp in a millisecond in a very anticlimactic way :P[QUOTE="F1_2004"]
