I hear that all the time, "High School will be the best four years of your life."
My Dad told me that's a bunch of BS and college is better though. Hope he's right.

Your dad is right.
Yup...totally
If HS are the best years of your life, then that's pretty sad. That means your entire adult life is a bore

Good to know...
High School's fun and all, but I just didn't believe it would be the best.
High school and college will probably be the best years of your life. If you don't believe it, maybe you should get more of a social life while you still can and have some fun.Dark__Link
Yeah, I absolutely loved not having any money or a job, living on Ramen noodles every day and having homework and studies every night.

It's not all about money, eating, or doing work. You should have had some fun, too!

Yeah, I tried. However, now that I have a good job and my own place, it lets me have much more than I could before! (And I can get into every bar/club that I want)

You're obviously crazy.

 sweet!
It's not always true that they are the best years of your life, especially if high school/college sucks for you. They are the most carefree, and they are the times of your life when you have the most time on your hands. Those are the years where you can act crazy and by and large get away with it. High school and college are crappy times for some people though, and you shouldn't assume that it's just going to get worse no matter what. It might, but it might not.
There's a certain unpleasantness to being an adult, a certain cynicism that grows with age and a longing for the days when you had less "real world" responsibility and when it seemed like you had all the time in the world. I once heard that the average child laughs 35 times a day, while the average adult laughs seven times a day. That says it all, whether it's true or not. Being an adult's not all bad though. You have a lot more freedom. For a lot of people, being an adult's a blast. Just depends on you and what you make of it and put into it.
HS definitely was the best years of my life, i was the **** at my highschool, everyone knew and loved me and girls didn't mind me dealing with more than one of them at a time, they even competed for me one time when one girl on each arm were playing tug of war, another time 2 girls, one in each arm were escorting me around the school and from there on the legend grew, I also had no cares in the world, no rent or groceries to buy, didnt need to worry bout my grades cause I was getting a 65 avg without trying or going to class, dabbled in recreational use of all kinds, driving underage, everything is illegal for you in highschool, makes it more fun.
College has been fun so far but mostly because of the freedom of being on my own, but I have to work to finance my habits and I have to actually try in school, so I don't get a lot of free time. :(
I think the reason people say high school and college are the best times of your life are due to a few factors. There's the lack of heavy responsibilities. People start to gain their independence. They are high on life, they get to explore what opportunities are out there, and also begin to discover their place in the world. It's a very exciting time for most. Parties, sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Experimentation that wasn't available before. It's one big party. No routine, no grind, just prospects and choices. The whole world is open to them. Not for everyone mind you, but for the people that go to college or are just leaving high school not knowing where they are headed.....it's still exciting.
Then after a while reality hits hard. Death, change, suffering. Situations that constantly hammer down over and over again that cannot be ignored or thrown aside. Include bad choices and things outside of your control into the mix, and things can get very bad very quickly. Situations that make people consider things that were not even a consideration or worry before.
Simply put, it's responsibility. You are on your own, and that's a very heavy weight to bear.
