that's a common misconception on the part of Christianity being against witchcraft or any "magical" thing people do. can't say if it's real or not, but the fact that people do "magic" or "curse" other people is what the christianity is against.
however, my brother is catholic also and is a big harry potter fan. i also know a priest who watched hp in the theatre. i think your pastor uncle has his own set of beliefs. :p harry potter is fiction anyway. nothing to be a fanatic about.
