Is this the next BIG media format?

100GB 1920p-capable high definition discs on their way
It's enough to make you cry. If physical disc formats really do have some shelf life, then Royal Digital Media's new optical disc format may have some worth, but if it's at the expense of Blu-Ray, it's going to play havoc with the consumer.
Technical part first: Royal Digital Media has developed a 100GB-capacity disc which can handle four hours' worth of 1920p HD video -- "the next generation of high definition" according to the company.
The killer part of the equation is that the cost of the discs and players is expected to equal those of traditional DVDs, therefore undercutting Blu-ray.
"The industry's problem, which Sony has been unable to solve with Blu-ray, is how to transition into HD without destroying the existing DVD industry or gouging the pocketbooks of consumers. We have the solution and can solve this without having to drastically overhaul the entire infrastructure of DVD production," proclaimed RDM's CEO Eugene Levich.
Though the technology is arguably better, it's a similar rationale to that of NME's VMD format. However, it may well be possible to update existing DVD players through proprietary software and firmware upgrades, and the possible replacement of a single chip.
RDM is currently in negotiation with a number of companies to bring the technology to Europe and Asia early next year.

What baffles me is there hasn't been any further information on this new media since Winter 2008. What did Sony do. Buy them out or something?
