The remains of England's King Richard III, found underneath a car park in 2012, will be reburied at Leicester Cathedral on March 26, 2015. Richard III is the last English king to have died in battle, dying at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 that ended the War of the Roses. The burial was delayed due to a legal battle where Richard's descendants claimed that he should be buried in York, because he is a member of the House of York, but the High Court ruled that there is no reason why his body should not remain in Leicester (where he was originally buried). There is also some controversy over because Richard is receiving an Anglican burial in an Anglican Cathedral (because he was an English Monarch, and the Church of England is currently the official religion of the Kingdom) even though Richard III was a Catholic.

Richard III was portrayed by William Shakespeare as a "bloody tyrant", but historians "have called" that reputation "into question".

Richard III is one of my favourite Shakespeare plays. Deciding to portray Richard as a Machiavellian prick was artistically the most interesting way he could have been written. I like that the play itself can be enjoyed on so many levels; whether it be a historical play, a tragedy, or a character study of Richard as some sort of antihero. It sucks that it's considered "too long" so whenever it does get played on stage these days it is always an abridged version.

As for the actual dude, it's neat that they found his remains. I have no real opinion on him and in terms of his character he is fascinating to study and just form your own opinion whether or not he was as much of a jerk as ol' William portrayed him as.

I didn't know there was one their. I guess the respectful thing to do would be to remove the pike.

@Aljosa23:

My favorite version of Richard III was with Ian McCellen (95). He was just so magnificently EVIL!

Given how long ago he lived I would imagine quite a large number of people in Britain are descended from him, I don't see what special right these people have to argue a case on his behalf.
