If you liked the movies enough then go for it, there's a ton of stuff that never made it onto the big screen. :) But if you only "kind of" like the series then I'd say no.

It's worth reading if you're a big fan of the movies.

in case of harry potter,i don't think knowing the ending really affects the pleasure you may have by reading the books.

Yeah, they are worth reading. There are quite a few differences between the books and the films.

The prose isn't anything special, but the premise and story is interesting enough.

The books are far more in depth. Sure, you may have the overall picture, but there's lot that happens there that cant be told in a short movie.

R3Miix

absolutely! I had seen the first five films before I read through the series, and the books are different enough to warrant a full read.

Honestly, 99% of the time, books are always better than movies. The 2 cases I've seen where that isn't so is with Order of the Phoenix and 1408.

Yes, they provide a lot of depth you won't get from the movies, as a lot of stuff is cut for time.

The books definitely cover a much larger range or material, and will also help to clear up any questions that may have been left lingering from the movies. Sadly, the movies were not able to put everything there since it would take up way too much time. The only one that was the closest was the Deathly Hollows.

They are good books, and there are scenes in them that aren't shown in movies such as the quidditch season in Order of the Phoenix. While there may not be any surprises, they are a great read. Although if you don't feel like reading the entire series, try reading Prisoner of Azkaban to see how much it compares to the movie.

yeah, there's quite a lot in the books that isn't in the movies. I didn't finish the book series, but from what people I know who have they were saying a lot more is in the book, which can clear up some stuff or give it more back story.

Absolutely. They're much better than the films for the most part so if you enjoyed the films you will love the books. In fact, alot of the stuff that doesn't make it into the films is some of the stuff that I love most about the Harry Potter series. The little details that make that world so entrancing.

I haven't read them myself, but I still would love to read them because I heard the movies left so much stuff out.

I always keep this in mind with movies,
100 pages of script = 1 hour
1 page of solid dialouge = 1 minute in movie

so a two hour movie with a moderate amount of dialouge is 200 pages

the shortest harry potter novels were 300 pages.
