Boris Nemtsov, a charismatic Russian opposition leader and sharp critic of President Vladimir Putin, was gunned down Saturday near the Kremlin, just a day before a planned protest against the government.

The death of Nemtsov, a 55-year-old former deputy prime minister, ignited fury among opposition figures who assailed the Kremlin for creating an atmosphere of intolerance of any dissent and called the killing an assassination.

Putin quickly offered his condolences and called the murder a provocation. He has ordered Russia’s top law enforcement chiefs to personally oversee the probe of Nemtsov’s killing.

Nemtsov was working on a report presenting evidence that he believed proved Russia’s direct involvement in the separatist rebellion that has raged in eastern Ukraine since April. Ukraine and the West accuse Russia of backing the rebels with troops and sophisticated weapons. Moscow denies the accusations.

The protest march that had been called for Sunday, of which Nemtsov was one of the leaders, was cancelled and organizers instead will try to hold a march of mourning for him in central Moscow, said Mikhail Kasyanov, a former prime minister now part of the opposition.

Nemtsov frequently assailed the government’s inefficiency, rampant corruption and the Kremlin’s Ukraine policy, which has strained relations between Russia and the West to a degree not seen since Cold War times.

In an interview with the Sobesednik newspaper, Nemtsov said earlier this month that his 86-year old mother was afraid that Putin could have him killed for his opposition activities. Asked if he had such fears himself, he responded: “If I were afraid I wouldn’t have led an opposition party.”

Speaking on radio just a few hours before his death, he harshly criticized Putin for plunging Russia into crisis by his “mad, aggressive and deadly policy of war against Ukraine.”

If Boris nemtsov was actual in Charge of Russia he would have handed Snowden over to the American Government in a heart beat, i am surprised the leak of understanding in America people have of Russia's politics, Boris was a party member of an Russian political party and among other Westren Liberals which favor the following.

-Russia joining the Euporean Union.

-Officially joining NATO.

-Pushing similar taxes as in the west.

-Supporting America's national interests in the region.

If you believe that somehow Boris had a majority of the Russian people thats rather false, considering that Senator John McCain has being supporting Boris since 2008 whenever McCain shows up the smell of deatj surely follows.

As for his death i would see it as false flag.

putin also is killing Ukrainians too, just to get some piece of land that's does not belong to the soviets anymore, shot down one malaysian airline, killing opposing politicians, and worth 200 billions. must be nice to have all that power.

Ah yes always blaming Putin and Russia after Russia prevented The American Government from starting an embarrassing intervention into Syria......

"shot down one malaysian airline"

If the downing of that Malaysian airline why haven't hasn't Malaysian government released the black boxes yet? surely now if that was Russia they would have released all the data almost on the same week of blaming Putin

"just to get some piece of land that's does not belong to the soviets anymore"

Russia holds more historical rights over Crimea then Europe and America, thats Russia's backyard they can do whatever they prefer, just like how ironical no one is preventing America creating the chaos in the middle east and by trying to rebuild bases in Iraq eh?

the black box is gonna tell us that russia shot it down? that is so laughable.

how is something that isnt theirs, give them the power 'to do whatever they prefer'? if its truly theirs, why do they had to kill all the Ukrainians? why is it called annexing? its called annexing because they took it. they took it means it wasnt theirs. they took it by force.

Ah and you must be an Obama Voter i assume then? if not i guess that makes you an Republican at heart.

"Putin sympathizers who use stupid conspiracy theories as actual "proof""

So far the westren news media hasn't shown anything as something that is reablie, unless your talking about that dress or the lamas and then Putin.... I am sure your government is always so innocent, thats why you used stupid conspiracy theories by attacking me seeing how you dont have anything reablie to put out.

Last time i was attacked as an Assad,Gaddafi sympathizer. Claiming that i am somehow being paid lol i wish if that life was as easy as that. But judging how desperate you sounded in your post as a repay to me proves my point about Obama, McCain sympathizers.

There have been several outspoken critics of his that have died in "mysterious circumstances". A very crticial russian news woman was gunned down in a stairwell a few years ago.

Ha, say whatever you'd like. Russia is in the shitter. I certainly have many grievances with my own country and the 'west' in general, the false equivalencies stop there however.

I'll just sit by and watch Putin pump more money into their rusting military while the average Russian male dies of alcohol poisoning and their quality of life degrades.

Nemtsov was working on a report presenting evidence that he believed proved Russia’s direct involvement in the separatist rebellion that has raged in eastern Ukraine since April.

It's pretty damn obvious what happened ...

Nemtsov's friends in the US State Department realized that the report contained only false evidence that the Kremlin would quickly expose as fraudulent.

The credibility of NATO and the West's entire Ukraine narrative was in such grave peril that the State Department decided that Nemtsov would be more useful dead than alive: Alive, he would have been a liability. Dead, he became circumstantial "proof" that the Kremlin feared the report enough to arrange an assassination.

NATO is like Macbeth, who lamented ...

“I am in blood stepped in so far that should I wade no more,

Returning were as tedious as go o’er”

They're so mired in criminality now that all they can do is to commit ever more crimes against humanity in the hope of silencing the witnesses with murder or terror.
