Is anyone here a fan of boxing or do you like to box?

I'd say I'm both. I love watching great boxing and I love boxing. There's nothing like the feeling of hitting your opponent with a cross and watching his eyes get glassy and then going in for the kill like Mike Tyson and then punching away and still punching even when the ref has already stopped the fight and then for that brief moment thinking about punching the ref too.

I highly doubt a little guy like you has the power to hit someone where their eyes get all glassy.

I enjoy watching it but I rarely do. I'd like to go to a match and enjoy the ol' 'manly flair'.

weight classes dont matter of you dont have the weight or strength where you could actually punch someone hard enough to cause any damage.

Plus wouldn't you wear those headgear things, making your punches hurt even less

I prefer MMA these days. I used to love watching boxing on HBO, but MMA gives me everything I liked about boxing with the additional layers of complexity. The sport is still evolving and I think its cool to see it happening. Its also much more unified. How depressing is waiting for a Mayweather v Pacquiao fight? Its like the feeling I get while I watch two top five teams play an exhibition game to end the college football season.

The problem with boxing is that aside from the Welterweight and Middleweight divisions there's not many great fighters in the other weight clases. And even so there are plenty of people who can beat Pacquiao and Mayweather but their promoters avoid them like the black plague.

Boxing is very much like college football. The big boys control how the champions are determined. Does anyone want to play Boise St.? Hell no, its much easier to take down Louisiana Monroe and then complain about how crappy BSU's schedule is.

Usually, I only do boxing around Christmas time. But this year I drove to meet up with family, so I was able to just throw all the gifts into the trunk of my car and not bother with any boxing.

I love watcing and participating in boxing. I watch just about every fight that comes on and can't wait for FNFs to kick off this w/e. I would like to know who this "plenty" of people that could beat these two. At WW there is no one. There are some really good Junior WWs on the way up, but are not yet ready for the likes of either fighter. The only fighter I can think of is Sergio Martinez, but he's a junior mid/middleweight. Neither will fight him because there really isn't anything to gain in doing so. Mayweather is a step ahead of the rest and would imo beat anyone at WW and down.

Rafael Marquez, Juan Manuel Lopez and Miguel Cotto would all have a great chance at beating Pacman and Mayweather because of their pure punching power. I still think Pacquiao was a punk for making Cotto go down in weight to fight him instead of fighting him at 147 and the way he got stronger in the later rounds against a physically bigger fighter suggests that he is indeed taking some kind of steroids. Pacquaio's a great fighter but he's scared to fight any decent bigger fighter (Margarito sucks) or any smaller fighter with great punching power to hurt him (such as JuanMa)

Are you serious? Rafa Marquez would not stand a chance against either fighter. He's a featherweight and it's too late in his career move up to 147 or even 140 for that matter and have success. Juan Ma, while good, is also a featherweight though he could potentially get up to 140 later in his career. He still has to fight Gamboa though. I think Gamboa takes that fight. Pac and Mayweather would destroy both of these fighters with ease. It would be a slaughter because both would have to move up 20+ lbs and lose speed and power.

Are you Puerto Rican and still holding onto Cotto? He's past it. Mayweather would box circles around him, and Pac has already beat him. He didn't look great against Yuri Foreman and the Clottey fight could have gone either way. He just isn't that great. He's needs to start preparing for James Kirkland. Kirkland will make some noise in the JM division now that he's out of prison and back to fighting. He will KO Cotto if they meet.

I was expecting you to say someone like Berto, T. Bradley, D. Alexander, or even A. Khan. At least you can make a legitimate argument for them.

Out of the bunch Mayweather is still the better boxer and would come out on top in every match up. The only questionable fight for him is Pacquiao, but he is faster, best defense in boxing, and has more skill.

Never cared for boxing. I understand the sport but it's just easy to cross kickyour opponentright in the knee cap or ankle. Then theycan't fight very well with a fractured or shattered bone in one of their legs. Orfracture or dislocatesomething in one of their arms when they throw it your way. You don't even have to break their knee cap or ankle. If youhit it hard enough they won't be walking well for a few days and may be off of it for a few hours initially.better yet, just break his wrist. Make him hurt himself everytime hepunches you.;)

Boxing just takes way too long, it's a slow takedown that requires a lot of effort. You would have to enjoy hitting people in order todo it.

size =/= strength, mike Tyson beats guys who are well over 6'5" and he's below 6" Anyways I used to do karate, the fighting part was fun. I also love to watch boxing, am a big fan of mike tyson.

For the lower weight classes the ideal height is around 5'5-5'7. The reason being that if you can get low and make your opponent have to punch down from weird angles it'll be very hard for them to hit you effectively. And also taller opponents will have to keep you on the outside because if you have any semblance of punching power all you have to do is get on the inside and throw uppercupts and hooks a la Tyson. It really is a huge disadvantage to be a taller fighter in the lower weight classes unless you have an exceptional jab. But even with that it'll be very difficult to keep a brawler or in-fighter away from your obvious weakness (fighting on the inside).

if you supposedly 'understand' the sport, then why are you going on about "cross kicking" your opponent or anything outside the rules of the sport?

derekjeter2005

lmao, NEGATIVE. Rafa and JuanMa are both too small for starters. Rafa is getting old, shop worn, and isn't as technical as his bro. Pac would beat him up faster than JuanMa did, and Floyd would just be Floyd and outbox Rafa for 12 rounds straight (just ask JMM).

JuanMa too would get a beating because he's shown that he is vulnerable to being rocked (rafa) and knocked down (concepcion). Pac, who's shown to have a damn good chin, would eat him up. Floyd would have a field day and outbox him too.

Cotto already lost to Pac so I don't know why you brought him up. Calling out Pac for being on 'roids' is a large and unproven claim, but i do agree about the fight being bs for being a catchweight. Floyd would probably just do the same thing to cotto as well, outbox him and chop him up with speed.

Contrary to popular belief the gloves in boxing aren't to cushion the impact of blows for the opponent, but rather to protect the hands of the wearer.
