Dillon County deputies say an argument between a brother and a sister over a bag of potato chips led to a shooting.

WBTW-TV reports that the incident happened Tuesday night. According to deputies, a 10-year-old boy shot his nine-year-old sister in the face with a shotgun.

Investigators say the two were arguing over the chips. Authorities say at some point, the boy left the room, got a shotgun out of his father's room, and shot the girl in the face.

The gunfire hit the girl on the right cheek.

The children reportedly ran to get help from their grandmother. The girl was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay; however, she will need plastic surgery.

Investigators are said to be considering charges in family court of assault and battery with intent to kill.

Actually its customary in rural areas with game for the fathers to allow the sons to hunt with them and adopt the responsibilites and customs of hunting and owning a rifle or shotgun at an early age, not so common now but used to be in the past. It just becomes a problem when the son is screwed up in the head.

Indeed. And the boy must have been shooting from a not so close distance. I don't care how terrible the shotgun would be, if it was upclose she would probably be dead.
