Does the right to bear arms include Surface to Air Missiles? I'd really like to take down those pesky planes that keep flying around my house. I just know it's Obama up there spying on me.

Just think; if the kid was allowed access to a grenade, he really could have done some damage. Goddamn restrictions.

I love how we keep getting gun rights advocates coming in with stories like this, but none of them ever bother bringing up that STATISTICALLY, having a gun in your home, ANY home, makes you more likely to die from a gun related death and stories like this never include how often those brave kids accidentally shoot themselves, their family members, or their friends.

Natural Selection at it's finest. The dumb never survive long, especially if they kill themselves with their own weapons.

You need to rely on statistical inference to get to the conclusion that presence of guns makes death by guns more likely?

More likely Obama thinks that you have to play the percentages and while high profile one-off events like this get conservatives wet, statistically they're FAR MORE RARE than the times when kids accidentally kill themselves because they find a loaded gun in their home. So you play the odds.

If someone accidentally kills himself then that's his own problem. Obama shouldn't be forcing the entire country to give up its liberty and means of defending itself from thieves and murderers just because there are some stupid kids that will die if the government doesn't protect them from themselves.

Shush with these ancedotal made up statistics using 1000 housholds ot of 300 million. I know it's BS because it's the exact opposite in the UK and yet they have guns in their house the chances are slimmer. So what invisible factor makes us higher?

I love how we keep getting pro-gun control people coming into stroies like these and saying they don't matter, and coming up with stuff that doesn't matter to the story. With responable owndership of weapons and tearching kids how to repect and use the weapon will almost negate accidentally shootings. It is the same with having a swimming pool. Kids can fall in and drown, and STATISTICALLY you are more likely to drown than accidentally shoot your self.

Also for the stories weapons being used to stop crime as being rare, alot of the time the media doesn't report them. The media doesn't like good news, and reporting a story of some would be robber being chased off by an armed homeowner wouldn't sell.

Maybe we need better security systems. I don't know why everyone always looks to justify violent solutions to problems first.

Are you willing to wait up to 5 minutes (or more if you live in a rural area?) for the police to show up when someone is breaking into your house or apartment? Well 15 years old isn't really a kid, That is old enough to be home alone to baby sit his 12 year old sister.

But I would restate your answer they shouldn't of been left home alone without the right training. But that wasn't the case.

well according to the story it was a very likely event in this case, seeing as how the neighbours had been broken into not long before the incident. the way you talk about it makes me think you see this story as an 'everything went to plan' kind of situation. as if leaving your kids at home with a gun was the best option here.

people can't tell the future. just because someone's house in the neighborhood got broken into doesnt mean anything.
