Favre to Vikings...2 year deal
Thank God this is over...now sports fans can move on with their lives and ESPN can focus on other NFL stories (besides where Vick and Favre will end up)

Couldn't you at least make a link about it. Sheesh.Wilfred_OwenWhen I said breaking news that meant no link yet...it was on ESPN radio...not website yet (at the time I posted it and yes I checked) So I broke the news to yall before there was a link and you complain...good job on that one

No, They DO have bias...just less than NFL.com
Fox, yahoo, cbs, nbc just seem to make up stuff all the time that is not even true...like they take the rumors section off ESPN backpage and make it real news
ESPN is biased (taking playmakers off the air for example)
But they have the best beat writers...Chris Mortenson, Ed Werder and Sal Palentonio for what I watch for (NFC East)
They just seem to be the least biased...the lesser of two evils
You can't make the case that ESPN has no bias...Seriously, ESPN is known as BSPN for a reason. They make up everything and are biased as all hell. They at least label things online as rumors...the other sites pose them as news I also enjoy most of the ex player analysis that they have...except for E. Smith...he is terrible (and I am a huge Cowboy fan)[QUOTE="dodgerblue13"][QUOTE="rawsavon"] Accurate news...But VERY biased...the whole owned by the NFL thing -I will watch the games they put on -but they always have their "spin" on stuff like Roger Goodell's decisions...so i just ignore their news postings -they are like watching Fox news...accurate but with major spinPirate700

Those work for this particular issue...Because this STORY IS SO BIG they have to be accurate
But I have seen that Fox, CBS, NBC generally report more rumors as true and report more outlandish things as rumors....things that have no chance of being true
Like I said about NFL.com...way too biased...would you go to walmart.com for investment advice on them or a financial site
Not saying ESPN is perfect, just best of the bad
-I like lots of their beat writers and think they try to report accuratly
BTW, I actually like Jay Glazer...he seems to be the only one outside of ESPN with REAL connections to players to get inside stories
To be honest, I do not really consider Newspapers anymore...they are about to die out...I am sure they are accurate (maybe the most, I don't know)...I just don't think about them anymore for news...like most people (as seen in dwindling subscriptions and readership and them cutting loose experienced writers like Tony Kornheiser from the Washington Post)

Major newspapers still produce legitimate stories. Just because hard copy versions of the news have dwindled majorly doesn't mean their websites have taken a hit.
:o Look! Negative PR about the NFL...right on NFL.com!
NFLPA director Smith convinced players will be locked out in 2011
It's from the Associated Press. It's not written by the NFL and yet it's on the site.
they might bust out the favre ticker again..Yep looks like I won't be watching ESPN for a few days.

1. I said I don't know about newspapers...I said they may be the most accurate, I just don't even think about them anymore. 2. nfl.com will report stories...they will just be the most biased...as anyone would expect -and of course they want this story out there -they want public pressure to stop the lockout before it happens...what better way than promoting the story,,,it is nfl.com not nflowners.com..they will push the nfl agenda, not the owners Like i said, I am not saying ESPN is god...just seems to be the best of the worst...IMO you can have yours too if you think that nfl.com is not biased, go with thatGah, that just means we gotta hear about this crap next summer...tbone29Even though it's a two year deal? :|

Wasn't the Jet's deal a 2 year deal? Or am I mistaken? Either way, he will retire at the end of the year again, pull this same stuff in the offseason. He has done it every year for the last how many years? I hope he has a horrendous season and finally retires for good. I am tired of hearing about him.

Only $$$ in an NFL contract that matters is what is guaranteed so they always back load deals...even 2 year ones...knowing that they will only have to pay year 1 and the signing bonus... After that, they just cut the player and don't owe any more $$$[QUOTE="Juice_13"][QUOTE="Tjeremiah1988"] obviously.rawsavon

I'm just saying, wasn't it a 2 year deal last year, which he only played 1 year for? And then the Jets released him because he said he was going to retire, no?

IMO It has to do more with NFL culture They inflate the contracts a ton (backloaded) knowing they will not be finished in that state (either cut the player ot know he will retire) Quick Example Signing bonus = 5 million Year 1 = 5 million Year 2 = 20 million ==== 30 million contract over 2 years = 15 million a year average, but it is really a 10 million 1 year deal I don't know why they do this...player ego is my guess (my average is in the top 5 in the league) But teams always force players to rework their deals when they get close to the backend big $$$...they say rework or get cut VERY rarely does it come back to haunt the team The only example I have it Larry Fitz. of the Cardinals...he was owed a ton over the couple years of his deal...what are cardinals going to do, cut the best WR in the league, no He reworked into an even better longterm dealI think it does have to do with player egos. They get the contract worth 10 mil, 15 mil a season and they are satisfied. I think it's quite hilarious. It's a good idea by the teams though, they get away with paying a lot less for the players.
I just brought up the Jets contract because someone mentioned about how we wouldnt have to listen to this next season because it is supposedly a 2 year contract, but I think the same thing will happen next year.

Ya, this is (IMO) a 1 year deal with an option Most likely 1 year deal Unless they are just awesome together (highly doubtful)...then it is a good deal for both parties in year 2...he gets to play and team has allstar QB for not that much $$$ (way less than Stafford $$)... But like I said, highly unlikely that someone skips camp (no timing with the WR's) and comes in and wins it all (even if they do know the offense)Please Log In to post.
