Muhammed Ali was a powerful fighter but I don't think anybody knows just how much of a martial genius Bruce Lee was.

In writing a biographical report for him I found that at one time he was with a friend who was a master of a North African style of staff fighting. Bruce watched this friend perform a series of moves that were considered the highest skill possible today...

He then paused...and said, "If it were me, I'd do it like this."

Picked up the staff and performed a series of moves that had his friend's jaw hitting the floor.

The moveset he performed was actually officially named escrima, and was the absolute most advanced style in that fighting form. Bruce had no prior experience with that particular staff.

That...and he sent a man nearly twice his size flying across a boxing mat and into a chair with the infamous "1 inch punch".

Jeet Kun Do is a martial art nobody but Bruce can do perfectly it seems, hell, Bruce's old master retired into the mountains of China because he could teach none better than Bruce.

bruce lee is awesome and all, but he was way to small to compete with a heavyweight on his feet. he might do some damage if he could get ali on the ground, but hed have a hell of a time getting him there. i go with ali simply because hes a lot bigger(and a good fighter too).

or i could cop out and say ali because bruce lee is dead...

Ali was much bigger had better reach and is just as fast if not faster with hand speed. He definitely had more power than Bruce Lee. Depends on if it's a boxing match or a street brawl. Street Brawl Bruce wins. Boxing match Ali hands down.

Apparently you skipped right by the 1 inch punch part of my explanation for my choice...

Bruce might have been short, but the man was mystical, I'm talking MYSTICAL. His demonstrations of the power of Chi were second to no muscle...that and he benchpressed nearly 300 pounds.

In just a straight boxing match? Ali hands down. He had the body, the agility, the athleticism, the speed and the knowledge of just traditional boxing. But in a knock down, drag out fight? I'd give it to Bruce Lee since this scenario allows for a full range of motion and moves.

ali has beaten stronger men. and i wouldnt call call his strength mystical. yes, he was very strong for his size, butsome of that is from his use of steroids. plus, id like to see any lightweight beat a heavyweight(nevermind ali).

Here's a great Bruce Lee video I saw on YouTube. It's an unedited "lost" interview with Lee. It's long (25 mins), but if you have the time it's definitely worth a watch. Shows just how cool, calm and wise Bruce really was. The only problem is that the interviewer is kind of a jerk who interrupts him a lot and doesn't seem to quite understand just who he's talking to.

here are some of Bruce Lee's physical feats:

  • Lee's striking speed from three feet with his hands down by his side reached "five hundredths" of a second.[47]
  • Lee could spring a 235lb (107kg) opponent 15 feet (4.6 metres) away with a 1 inch punch.[46]
  • Lee's combat movements were at times too fast to be captured on film at 24fps, so many scenes were shot in 32fps to put Lee in slow motion. Normally martial arts films are sped up.[48][49][50]
  • In a speed demonstration, Lee could snatch a dime off a person's open palm before they could close it, and leave a penny behind.[51]
  • Lee could perform push ups using only his thumbs[39][46]
  • Lee would hold an elevated v-sit position for 30 minutes or longer.[45]
  • Lee could throw grains of rice up into the air and then "catch them in mid-flight" using chopsticks.[39]
  • Lee performed one-hand push-ups using only the thumb and index finger[46][52][39][46]
  • Lee performed 50 reps of one-arm chin-ups.[53]
  • From a standing position, Lee could hold a 125lb (57kg) barbell straight out. [45][39]
  • Lee could break wooden boards 6inches (15cm) thick.[54]
  • Lee performed a side kick while training with James Coburn and broke a 150-lb (68kg) punching bag[45][55]
  • Lee could cause a 300-lb (136kg) bag to fly towards and thump the ceiling with a sidekick.[46]
  • In a move that has been dubbed "Dragon Flag", Lee could perform leg lifts with only his shoulder blades resting on the edge of a bench and suspend his legs and torso perfectly horizontal midair. [56]
  • Lee could "thrust" his fingers through unopened steel cans of Coca-Cola, at a time before cans were made of the softer aluminum metal.[57]
  • Lee could use one finger to leave "dramatic" indentations on pine wood.[57]

Ali had much better conditioning, which was how we won a lot of his fights. To be able to skip around an opponent and throw punches for 16 rounds is really incredible.

"Ali is the fastest man ive seen in the ring, not just the fastest heavywieght, the fastest man"

Lets assume thest two legends squared off in a bar, where fights usually happen.

The most efffiecent fighting style for 1v1 close range fighting is actually boxing. Ali does nothing but train with his hands all day every day. This man can throw hideous combinations, each one with enough force to put lee out of the fight, you guys cant argue with the fact that if Ali lands on Lee, Lee is gone.

I can also assure you that Ali's punches would land on lee. If you have seen the speed and precision with which ali fights you will agree, Ali is a professional heavyweight boxer, the best heavywieght that ever lived.

On the other hand Lee is an experienced martial artist, people also forget that Lee trained in the sweet science aswell, winning a boxing championship. But the fact remains, Ali is bigger and more powerful and this factor alone will determine the outcome.

Some would argue that Lee could "submit ali's ass UFC stlye YO!!" but Lee only recieved fundamental training in grappling arts, not enough to bring down Ali in his prime in a bar fight.

Ali once faught a televised fight with a wrestler, the fight was declared a no contest when the wrestler laid on his back and refused to stand up for fear of copping a punch.

Bruice f***ing lee. Bruce trained using his entire body, in many styles of martial arts, Ali was a boxer, he could give bruce a great jab, but nothing more.

And Ali didnt do thousands of situps and hundreds of squats during his training? If you think Lee is the only one who trained every part of his body you an idiot. All combat althletes train every part of thier bodies. Just a great jab? That jab would hurt Lee severly, if not end the fight. Ali could throw several bone crushing punches in less then a second. Lee could do the same.....once again the difference lays in the size.

The only thing is the jab wouldnt hit Bruce lee, he trained in various forms of martial arts and would be able to block and counter the attack. I've seen videos where Bruce has thrown 300lb men flying with his 1 inch punch. Bruce lee would win hands down.

A jab can hit anyone....even if lee blocked it will still do some damage, lets not forget both fighers arent wearing 8oz gloves, amplifying the damage done by every punch, including that jab.

Bruce Lee (but that's probably 'cause i do martial arts and he is one of my idols, or like my sensei used to say "Sizemeansnothing if you don't know what you're doing") Yes, i know Muhammad Ali knows what hes is doing but only with his hands, Bruce Lee exploits the abilities of every part of his body for everything they're worth.

It would be an epic battle, and then Mas Oyama would bust into the ring and kill them both with one punch each.
