Here are some of his "feats" that he has supposedly done:

  • 50 reps of one-arm chin-ups
  • Held and elevated V-sit position for 30 minutes or longer
  • Could cause a 300 pound bag to hit the ceiling when he kicked it with a sidekick
  • Could snatch a dime from a person's open palm before they could close it... and leave a penny behind

Do people actually believe these things?

50 reps of one-arm chin-ups is pretty much impossible. From a quick search on Google, it is said that the world record for this feat is 25. I couldn't even find a real record of it from anywhere, but 50 is beyond ridiculous.

Holding an elevated V-sit for 30 minutes or longer? This is an elevated V-sit for people who don't know:

Kurt_Thomas_V-sit.jpg

Any gymnast will tell you that you are out of your mind if you think somebody can hold that position for over a half an hour.

Cause a 300 pound heavy bag to hit the ceiling with a sidekick? This one is just so utterly ridiculous that it really doesn't even really require a response.

Snatch a dime from someone's hand before they can close their hand and also leave a penny behind? Does anybody honestly believe this is possible? Was the man blind and 100 years old?

Does anybody here think any of these things could possibly be true?

Bruce Lee has done a lot for Martial Arts/Philosophy, but I agree. A lot of his "accomplishments" have been exaggerated.

This has nothing to do with martial arts. This has to do with "feats" that have nothing to do with martial arts.

The strength and discipline to accomplish said feats would have come from practise and training in martial arts......or youtube.

Not really. Strength to do one armed pull ups come from doing one armed pull ups. Strength to do v-sits come from doing v-sits. You aren't going to get super strong just from doing martial arts. Bruce Lee lifted weights. But there is no way that anybody can do 50 one armed chin ups and hold a v-sit for over 30 minutes. Not even specialists like gymnasts can do such things.

I've got some more feats.
Bruce Lee's striking speed from 3 feet away was five hundredths of a second.
Bruce could perform one-hand push-ups using only his thumb and index finger
Bruce would ride the equivalent of 10 miles in 45 minutes on a stationary bike, sweating profusely afterwards.
Bruce could collapse steel reinforced head protection gear.
Bruce was able to lift a 300-lb. barbell. Bruce could floor an opponent with a punch 1 inch away.
Bruce could throw grains of rice up into the air and then catch them in mid-flight using chopsticks.
(During his prime, not during Long Beach Karate Championships) Bruce Lee's one-inch punch was known to have sent 200-lb. men flying back 15 feet (this is the commonly reported distance by most who knew Bruce)
Bruce could perform leg lifts with only his shoulder blades resting on the edge of a bench (he could hold his torso and legs out straight and perform leg lifts)
Bruce Lee could perform 3 kick combination in midair (composed of head-height side and crescent kicks)
A doctor who knew Bruce once claimed that he was "Muscled as a squirrel, and spirited as a horse" and fitter than anyone he had ever seen.
Bruce could thrust his fingers through unopened cans of Coca Cola, this was before the days cans were made of the softer aluminum metal.
Bruce once exploded a 150-pound punching bag with a massive sidekick while training with James Coburn.
He trained from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., including stomach, flexibility, and running, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. he would weight train and cycle. A typical exercise for Lee would be to run a distance of two to six miles in 15 to 45 minutes, in which he would vary speed in 3-5 minute intervals. Lee would then ride his stationary bicycle for 30-45 minutes at full speed immediately after running. Next, Lee would jump rope for 800 jumps non-stop.

Regardless, he could still destroy Chuck Norris with one hand tied behind his back and one foot chained to a 250lb weight.

Well, not really. It's just endurance, V-sits would just be a real test of your balance and tricep's endurance. Pull ups are just another muscle group, and as you said...

Why is this guy even a legend? All those incredible things he did are fake and the movies are nothing special either... How come Jet Li or Jackie Chan aren't the best martial artists ever? Have you seen their movies, they take on like 30 guys at the same time...

qead

My own personal opinion is that he would have gotten taken down and choked out. The man who trained Bruce Lee in Judo, Gene Lebell, has said that Bruce was a great athlete. He doesn't talk much about his actual fighting abilities on the ground. Recently in an interview, he said if he's being completely honest, a girl he trains (Ronda Rousey), who was an Olympic gold medalist in Judo would "eat him for lunch".

Bruce did train some on the ground game... but not even close to enough to stop Royce Gracie from having his way with him on the ground. The next question you have to ask is "could Royce get him down?" And my answer is "yes... without question". Somebody who is green at stopping takedowns is going to have a hard time. Hell, Royce even took down Ken Shamrock at UFC 1 (he actually pulled guard), who was well over 200 pounds and is a ground fighter himself. This is nothing against Bruce as a martial artist... this is me trying to honestly assess how a fight would go between Bruce and Royce. The general rule is that if one fighter has basically NO ground game, and the other fighter is a ground specialist, then fighter A can do nothing to stop the fight from going to the ground, and the fight will end soon after.

I have nothing against Bruce. What I don't like is "bullshido". I don't like myths and fantasy that is often attributed to aspects of martial arts. There is plenty of mysticism about martial arts. And it just so happens that since Bruce Lee was so influential, the legend has become greater than the man. And I don't mind legends to a certain extent... what I don't like is flat out lies.

Some of the ridiculous "facts" about Bruce Lee make other very respectable martial artists seem inferior. It isn't fair to them, and it isn't fair to martial arts as a whole. I love martial arts, which is why I like to separate myth from reality and try to bring people back down to earth.

It isn't Bruce's fault. It is fans and people spreading rumors which have come to be known as "fact". I dispell the myths about Bruce Lee, and don't discredit Bruce as a martial artist.

You doubt his ability. He's done amazing things, people RECORD these things, and you're all like "nope didn't happen." Imagine if you did something amazing, and someone was saying you never actually did those things...How is that not discrediting him?
