First of all I don't give a **** about africa ,there are millions of diseases there, one more won't change anything.Second,it's just scare tactic just like the avian flu ,by which only a few people were killed in some asian countries but the media have a tendency to exaggerate things

Its easily curable, but could be a problem to the developing world who don't have access to healthcare. Still, its pretty much confined to animals at the moment. lets hope it stays that way.

I would think the Plague is a much bigger deal then the avian flu...

Bird flu is much much worse than the plague. Bird flu is incredibly hard to cure - plague is easily curable, but in the developing world it could get out of hand with the lack of healthcare.

Edit: just thought that cure is probably the wrong word. Treat is probably better.

If it mutates to humans if would ravish africa. They wouden't stand a chance. The resistance over there is about .01%. Same could happen if it got to less devoloped asian countries.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but wouldn't that take care of the AIDS problem over there...

Bird flu could mutate and ravish the world - but we don't know. I was comparing the treatability. We don't know enough about the abilitys of a mutated bird flu to compare it to the plague, so I was using the only comparable data.

stupid media trying to "scare" everyone.

Who cares if that disease re-emerged? Modern medicine isn't just "oh, you look sick, I guess I'll just drain your blood."

I'm going to hell.

What the hell does having AIDS have to do with getting the plague or avian flu? Besides the increased vulnerability due to a weaked immune system.

He said it would ravage Africa. And I was implying that if the Plague killed everyone there, we would no longer have a serious AIDS problem.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to resort to spelling it out.

I hope it wipes out a third of the population like it did last time. This world could do with 2 billion less people on it.

Bubonic plague...has probably been around forever. It goes way back even before the large plague breakouts("black death") in Europe in 1347. Where I am I don't see it as much of a threat even though it has a great potential to be one. Easily curable if diagnosed early. Problem is, if it's not controlled, then we'll eventually have a real problem on our hands...

It's plagues/diseases like this that probably wiped out early human beings(I mean really early, way before civilization was "established" around 4000BCE), maybe even entire civilizations.

Heh... there was a tourist site I went to when I was in Arizona recently that apparently had bubonic-plague-infected chipmunks. :|

Yeah,if they cured smallpox,I don't think this will be a threat.I mean H5N1 isn't a threat. There's probably less than 20 people dead because of it,and the only one I can recall off the top of my head is a bird farmer in Kusadasi in Turkey, and Kusadasi translates to "Land of the birds" or something similar.Oh,and it's ironic that the country name is Turkey.
