A dumb burglar was shot in the shoulder and leg after mistakenly locking the owner of the house in his own gun cupboard, police said.

Three armed invaders broke into a Houston home at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

A dumb burglar was shot in the shoulder and leg after mistakenly locking the owner of the house in his own gun cupboard, police said.

Three armed invaders broke into a Houston home at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

But, unluckily for them, they hadn't realized they'd stuffed him in his own weapons store. Thinking the burglars had left, the homeowner crept down the stairs carrying a loaded gun in case they were still around.

Seeing one of the attackers on the ground floor, he opened fire hitting him in the shoulder and leg. The suspect returned fire but failed to strike.

That's a GREAT idea! Let's lock our victim in this gun closet! Dumbass...

How dare this homeowner use such violent tactics. He should have tried to talk with the burglar and attempted to understand what led the burglar to wanting to steal from him. I mean, it must have been that the thief had a troubled childhood, that he wasn't given the same opportunities other, more law abiding citizens were given in their lives. This homeowner should have called the police and waited patiently for them to arrive to let him out of his cuboard, in fact, he was in more danger from being in that cupboard with all those guns than from three "burglars". Think about it: one of those guns could have been loaded with a high capacity magazine, a device more dangerous than the gun itself, and the gun could have shot the owner 30 times without having to reload. It's actually a good thing that these burglars were there to protect the owner from those guns, as the burglars were armed themselves, so they know how to handle a vicious firearm when it decides to start shooting. These burglars should be commended for putting their lives at risk to help protect the owner. All kidding aside, the burglar got what he deserved. It's too bad that the bullets didn't hit him in the head though, the owner should hit the range more.

Sure, then the burglar would have a knife and just stab the person because he doesn't gave a gun to fight back with.

Or not since you do need to have a bit of balls to successfully use a knife. Most people are only tough with a firearm.

And what's going to happen if they ban guns? You think the criminals are going to turn them in? Of course not. The illegal guns will stay in circulation, and even more, formerly legal, guns will go into the circulation of illegal guns. The only people left without them will be the nonviolent, law abiding citizens, who never would have used them for anything but self defense anyway.

When the guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns.

Or the burglar wouldn't have the balls to show up on the first place. While everybody has access to a knife, how many knife crimes do you even hear about. And I do want to make one thing clear. I'm not completely against guns. I just don't believe the constitution was ever intended for personal protection. It was meant to overthrow an unjust government which our society is not armed to fight against.

Statistically? A whole shitload more, in places where guns are illegal.

Criminals are criminals for a reason. The guy who breaks into a house with a gun is going to break into that house, no matter what. It's not about "having balls" or not. It's about criminals being criminals.

So then stiffen the penalties and stop giving gun offenders a slap on the wrist. A criminal with a gun should be an automatic life in prison without the possibility of parole. Why wait til he kills somebody to lock him up for good? Or better yet, they should be treated like terrorists.

He missed with the gun. If they were banned and the criminal had a knife then the victim might've been hurt. >_>

Meanwhile Brits see around 550 murders a year. We get more than that just in Detroit. America has over 12000 murders a year even with strong gun ownership.

It doesn't matter if he has a gun or not.

If a burglar breaks into your house you're at risk. End of story.

By saying that if the burglar didn't have a gun he may never would have broken into a home implies that a gun is the catalyst for a burglary.

IIRC the gun laws in Detroit are fairly strict, Also the number of murders in the US had been dropping. In 1992 it was at 23,000. Also the the number voilent cirmes had fallen, I read that it fell like 25%.

There is still more gun crime in America than there is knife crime in the UK.

Surely that couldn't be because America has nearly 5x more people.

The locations are largely irrelevant considering the areas where all those crimes happen are all in poverty-stricken places like areas of London or Chicago. The reason why countries such as Switzerland and Japan have next to no violent crimes is because they don't have those kinds of areas, not because of gun laws.

No. You are disagreeing with my statement without evidence that I'm wrong. The most common way criminals get guns is through straw purchases.

No. You are disagreeing with my statement without evidence that I'm wrong. The most common way criminals get guns is through straw purchases.

You've made now 2 statements without any sources.

Criminals don't get their guns legally. They're criminals.

Meanwhile virtually every illegal gun in this country was once a legal firearm.

lol not even remotely true.

It is. It would still be true after the gun ban, however, considering the stockpile of 270 million privately owned firearms.

Here's a very interesting article and each way is linked back to either a legal purchase or intended legal firearm. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/guns/procon/guns.html

ok heres the thing. 1 i hate guns and choose not to own one for personal reasons ..... and i dont attack people for such a thing for owning one . secondly. truth of the matter is this...... ban or no ban guns will always be around . you really believe if guns were banned it wouldnt cause a huge economic boom for the black market? its a no win scenario

So he shot him in the arm and leg... sounds like a dumb move. He's lucky the burglar was even less accurate.

Read your own article. Never says straw pruchase are the largest source of guns for criminals. No study nor actual numbers are given. "One of the most common" != the most.

Your source also goes onto say "ATF officials say that only about 8% of the nation's 124,000 retail gun dealers sell the majority of handguns that are used in crimes" which means they are activly breaking current laws.

I honestly don't know what's your point here. You still haven't backed up your claim and you've actually shown that 92% of all gun retailers follow the current laws in place. Not exactly helping your case.

wait your judging the shooter but not the burglar? if you ask me the burglar was a moron by locking his hostage in a gun cupboard
