Which is a better band Burzum or Disturbed?

For me it's Burzum. Varg is awesome.

I prefer Burzum because he has excellent atmosphere in songs like Dunkelheit, Jesus' tod and Glemselens Elv. It makes me want to put on some corpse paint and walk through a forest in broad daylight! :twisted:

I really don't like burzum, the 15 year old inside me still likes a disturbed song from time to time tho.

Never said he was an angel. Still alot of things you write about were just a part of the scene at the time. Remember that Mayhem and Burzum were not the only bands out there at the time, they were the ones that became famous for the things that happend around them. Ive never heard about the poison letter so I cant really comment on that, but I dont really remember hearing about Euronymous going to jail or anything of the sort. As for Dead, Euro wasnt the only one that had fun with the mans remains. Isnt one of the stories surrounding the suicide about eating parts of the brain by a number of people? Finally I am biased against Varg because Ive no reason to believe him. Euro cant say what happend and as for the church burnings Varg has always been against Christianity having a place in Norway.

Edit: Still I may be wrong on all counts. What I know of the early Black Metal scene is from people I know, the documentary you mentioned which is one of the mroe famous on the subject of BM, I also have the Lords of Chaos book somewhere though its often been criticied when it comes to how accurate it is.

It has nothing to do with intelligence, if you feel stronly enough about something you are liable to do something others might see as stupid. Im an atheist, but Im in no way a militant atheist. Many people in norway believe that the catholic church is an enemy that has invaded their country (which for the most part is true, christianity wasnt exactly welcomed with open arms).

Sure you do. Hell, people get convictedc of crimes they didn't commit, what makes you so certain that someone wouldn't be convicted of murder when they killed someone in self-defense? Aaseth's own bandmates have stated that he was planning to kill Vikernes. Anyway, whatever the truth of the matter may be, and whatever Varg's personal views may be, none of that matters in my view. I can seperate the art from the artist.
