I don't like them for a few reasons:
1. No story.
2. Similar to 1 - The quests / missions have very little to nothing to do with each other.
3. Gameplay usually sucks.
4. Generally lacks the "RPG" part except for your character being in that universe. No "role playing" involved.
5. You're forced to team up with other players. This is very annoying.
I'm considering getting Star Wars: The Old Republic because BioWare says it focuses on story, and I like what I'm seeing as far as gameplay. Much more RPG focused.

There's role-playing to be had in an MMORPG if you know where to look and don't care about the 1337-kiddies snickering at you.[QUOTE="JediXMan7"][QUOTE="Guppy507"]

There's role-playing to be had in an MMORPG if you know where to look and don't care about the 1337-kiddies snickering at you. This is true. But it's a little awkward to role play in a game that doesn't focus enough on it. In most cases the players make the situations, not the game itself.

Eh. Not awkward for me. I like to RP on forums from time to time if I can find a good one, so it comes natural. Game's what you make it.Eh. Not awkward for me. I like to RP on forums from time to time if I can find a good one, so it comes natural. Game's what you make it.

I've role played a bit on boards. I never really understood how certain this worked. I usually stick to simpler forum-based RPGs.
[QUOTE="DSJR4"]because a campaign isn't worth 60 dollars.JediXMan7
You haven't played Batman: Arkham Asylum. It was worth the $60 (maybe not the $100 I spent for the Collector's Edition, but that's because the batarang was cheap)
Your right, I haven't played it. Regardless, No matter how good the story is, I still will not asay a campaign is worth it. Because once I'm done completing it, The game will just sit around until I trade it in. Multiplayer online games I will play until a better one gets released.[QUOTE="JediXMan7"][QUOTE="DSJR4"]because a campaign isn't worth 60 dollars.DSJR4

It had great gameplay, great voice acting, great story, and great graphics. It also had items for you to find through the game (many of which easter eggs). It also had challenge modes which are fun.
The only time I'll say a story wasn't worth it is when it's really, really short. Even then I don't usually say that.
it's like buying a movie or book. OntainNot quite, because when you buy a movie or a book, your not expecting for there to be anything else besides a story. All books have stories only, all movies have stories only. You just don't expect to have anything else. Games have more options, Online multiplayer, Online Co-op. Then you get 1st person, 3rd Person games. Although in books there's 1st person and 2nd person stories too. Also, Movies and Books aren't 60 dollars.
[QUOTE="PannicAtack"][QUOTE="DSJR4"]Books aren't 60 dollars.DSJR4You'd be surprised. If a book is 60$ it better be the greatest book ever written. In my opinion. There are books that can cost upwards of that. Textbooks can be quite expensive, as can books that are out of print. Another example are vocal scores to musicals and opera that aren't public domain.
I pick mass effect and bioshock above gears of war and call of duty any day. I have nothing against online but I do still enjoy a good story.
So basically, what you're saying is, you will avoid all of the great games out there just because they don't have multiplayer?
I understand about replay value. But single player games have replay value and some multiplayer games don't. It's a matter of taste in the end, I guess.
