If you want to ensure you're playing guitar correctly then buy an acoustic around the £30 range.

If you want to hide errors then start with an electric guitar.

agreed, the best way to learn is to hear your mistakes then correct them.........there are good starter packs at online retailers like guitarcenter or musiciansfriend. you may want to go to a local spot to get a feel for what you like though.

It's much more rewarding this way. After you nail the basics on acoustic, playing electric is very simple in comparison. The frets and strings don't require as much force, easier to do chord transitions, frets are closer, using the end of the neck is much easier and you can mess around with some nice effects. Another bonus is that you'll be able to play most songs off the bat, not sure about yourself but nailing new techniques gives great satisfaction.

try them for some really nice deals. Oh and yes it's better if you learn acoustic first, but if you want an electric, get a Telecaster (not for any reason, I just have a thing for Teles). They also have starter packs on the website.

I started learning on a Squire strat. Real great guitar and I recommend for a beginner.

get an acoustic gutar first, then you can change to electric, and you'll see how easy is playing on a eletric.

I tell everybody but nobody listens. Get the one with 9 strings 4 necks 13 whammy bars and boom for a harmonica or other small wind instrument. Top it off with a disco groover sling so you can pump out those jamz.

OR simply get guitar hero and you can pretend you're playing a guitar.

i learned to play acoustic first, and there is no need to buy a $100+ guitar.
