My friend just bought a camry and i have to tell you that i was not impressed at all, though it rides very nice and is quiet the interior styling is awful. Both cars look nice from the outside and i assume the camry would have a longer life span just because it is a toyota, but i really like the looks of the altima's interior to the point that it would be worth putting a few more dollars into it down the road in repairs (whereas probablynot necessaryyou went with the toyota). though its a toss up i would say get the nissan

You are aware that most Hondas and Toyotas are manufactured in the US, right?

As for the question at hand, I like the Camry over the Altima myself. My wife and I were looking at the Camry for her last fall and almost got one, but settled on the Mazda 3 instead. Very nice car as well.

I guess the 40k+ workers each company has working over here, must be working for free. Not to mention the partnerships they have with countless American companies.

But did you know that Honda, Toyota, and Nissan have 8manufacturing plants in the US each, while GM has 82?

Did you know thatToyota has 65% domestic parts in their cars, while GM has slightly under 90%?

Did you know that Toyotas NAP ratio (ratio that shows the cars built in North America vs. cars imported) is 55%? That means that 45% of their cars are imported.

So no, most Hondas and Toyotas are not manufactured in the US, and don't benefit the American citizens like an American car does.

So we should all buy inferior products so some overpaid Union workers can keep their job? No thanks.

You realize that auto sales count for a large portion of North American revenue don't you? If that goes out the window, and Japan etc. dominates the market, suddenly we'll become alot poorer. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy Asian cars, they're good, but American made cars are good as well (not some of the more recent ones but...). Buy what you like but NA cars aren't 'inferior'.

While both cars are great cars for what they are, do you have any other options lined up? Both of the said cars are very bland and boring. For the same price you can get a lot more fun cars.

That is true of American cars which deprecate in value very quickly, but not of imports like Toyota or Honda. Would you rather drive a brand new Camry for 22k or a 1 year old one for 19 or 20k? Personally Id go with a new one.

With American cars they probably lose 50% of their value in 2-3 years. I bought a Grand Prix a few years back for about half of its original retail price when it was 2-3 years old.

Not all American cars. My Corvette has held its value wonderfully. Vettes are one of the best cars in terms of held value. Now with most American cars, yeah you are correct. Also, Toyotas don't hold their values that great. Honda's do though.

Have you looked into a used GTO? you get a corvette engine and you have a full back row of seats. What about a Nissan? They are pretty nimble for a 4 door and are the same price range as your Camry.

Its RWD. I'm looking for something brand new and either FWD or AWD. I like the GTO though.

If you check out my original post, I mentioned I was also looking at the Altima 3.5 SE. Both the Camry V6 and the Altima V6 have 3.5 L engines. The Toyota puts out 265 hp while the Altima does 270 hp. The Altima has a CVT.

Get a VolkswagenPassat, they are much more fun to drive then those bland Camrys, Civics, and Altimas. You could get a 2.0 L Turbo I-4, which means you get just as much power as the V-6s with the gas miliage of a 4 cylinder car. Just compare them, you can see the Passat has much more standard then the Camry or Altima for about the same price.

I've seen both the later iterations of these models. Toyotas have a better reputation and the latest Camry has a nicer interior in it. Thats what I would pick if I were buying a car now. I just paid off my 03 Accord and it has only 40k miles so I'll hang on to it for the time being.

Out of the two cars you are considering, I'd recommend the Altima. A friend of mine owns an '03 Altima that he is very proud of, and it's never given him any troubles. But if you prefer the Camry's looks, then definitely go for it instead. Both are very similar cars (in terms of reliability and performance), so you really can't go wrong with whatever you end up buying.
