Well the topic says it all hehe.

I am wondering if a "FENDER Classic Series '60s Stratocaster" is any good. The price is 4500 swedish crowns = 650 USD

It's kinda expensive here I know, but that is the best price I found. It's only the guitar without AMP etc.

I want to play Red Hot Chilipeppers like songs.

All tips will be greatly appreciated.

:)

You might want to start out with something cheaper for a first guitar.

yeah, it is still better to get a cheaper end one 1st.  I know a fair few people who are great at acoustic guitar but hate playing amped up electrics, best to see if you like anything different before you plunge in the deep end.

I'm a bit out of the loop on what new, basic end, electrics there are but i would honest recommend going cheap.  I mean i use a Gibson V with a paint job just now, but as i saad i started a lot cheaper.

Mainly i would say it is about how the instrument plays and sounds to what you want to do with it...that i cannot help you with.

You might want to start with learning to spell "ELECTRIC guitar."

Now i've got that out the way, its time for some helpful advise. I advise going for a cheaper guitar to begin with then once you feel confident move up onto a more expensive guitar.

If you play a Fender stratocaster you will never ever want to play another guitar again.

My teacher advised me before I even pulled out the wallet for a guitar that the interest in that music was present. After that he said the best you can start off with is a fine guitar. Not a cheap one. If you're really prepared to get into the guitar and you've got the cash then get the one that interests you best. Big thing is know what you're buying. Go to the store and get some test-playing in on that strat you like and make sure it's the stile you're looking for.

So you think I should go for this one? I'm not really into these starter-kits you see everywhere.

I think he's saying fender strats are so good you'll never want to get a different one.

Yup. It's all well and good having a huge collection of guitars, but if I want to play one for an hour or so I'll go for the Fender Strat every time.

I can't help but wonder if you play a tissue-box hollowbody with toiletpaper-roll fingerboard, 22 jumbo arts and crafts strings run into a microwave.

Ok I understand. I'm leaning towards the stratocaster. You're not the first person to say that i should spend some money on it insted of getting some low budget guitar that I'll replace soon anyway. All I know is that I will play the guitar for the rest of my life. It might be a lot of money but I won't buy one everyday :)

First off, I would highly recommend against buying one of those "Starter Packs". These types of guitars simply aren't made well. They crack, they break, and they don't stay in tune. You'd be better off if you bought a Fender Mexican Made Stratocaster. You could probably find one for around $350 (American). I would also recommend not buying a Squire. These guitars aren't that much better than the guitars you'd find in those "Starter Packs". Also, make sure that you buy something with a good name brand. Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, etc. If you don't recognize the brand, then I'd stay away from it.

Also, go to a Guitar store and sit down and play lots of guitars. This is really the best way to find a Guitar that you love. In addition, there are a few things you need to look at when you make your purchase:

Craftsmanship: Is it heavy? Does it feel like cheap?

Tone: How does it sound?

Playability: How does the Guitar feel when you're playing it?

And remember, don't buy something just because it has a sweet looking paint job. What the guitar looks like should be your last concern.

One last thing, you know the old saying, you get what you pay for? Well, this is especially true regarding musical instruments.

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks man :D  that does help me! There's only one problem. Those guitars cost about 900 USD in the stores here (Sweden). The one I want to buy is for 650 is a used one. I've sent an e-mail to the owner so we're going to meet and do busniess soon.

A big thank you to everbody!  =)

Put that thing in a display case and get a Squire Strat. :P

Better to start small and work up to the big guns.

I own ten or so guitars. I guess that would work, but if you're a beginner, go for something cheaper. It might not make much sense now, but you'll figure out why.

You can't compare guitars. The reason there are so many different kinds is because they produce different sounds.

In saying that, Telecaster>All.
