anyways it seems pretty obvious to me that there is no way a C can be an average grade in high schools these days because of how much grade inflation there is.  like a totally average GPA is probably closer to 3.00 making B's more the average... I just felt like putting that out there because way too many kids are trying to say that a "C" is average still but it's not... it USED to be average a long time ago back when it used to be harder to get good grades in high school but not anymore...

Well back in MY DAYS of high school we didn't have any of this high tech stuff. I remember a young Jeremy "Omni Slash" playing with his Atari and getting swirlies. Times sure have changed if that isn't the average anymore.

C is average based on a 4.0 grade system. Darth matt

I don't feel like going through pages of google to find the right link so here's the first one I clicked on said:

High school graduates earned a higher overall average GPA in 2000 than in 1990. In 2000, high school graduates earned a 2.94 overall average GPA; in 1990, high school graduates earned a 2.68 overall average GPA.

http://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/hsts/results/gpa/findings.asp

I've seen one that was more recent that the year 2000 which had the average GPA at over 3.00 and that is on the 4.00 system.

I don't think that's entirely true...

It should be average...

And it's not really anymore easy to get good grades now...  In fact, it's probably harder...

The world is simply getting way too competitive and failure is less tolerated.

You can't be average and survive, so everyone has to be perfect or kiss a nice life good bye.

do you have proof? i don't know what high school you went to, but a C was definetly average at my high school and even in my college it is the same. few people made honor roll consistently (except in tech, but those kids were speical) our grades weren't infalted, our teachers wanted to fail us. the professors are the same way.

that's BS. Except for the "it should be average" part which I agree with. A "C" should be average but teachers don't have the guts these days to give kids grades lower than a "B." High school courses are based way too much on effort and they count home work way too heavily and don't count tests enough. It's easier to get better grades now. No question about it. Grades have gone up, test scores have gone down. This is implying that kids are learning less material but getting higher grades than ever before.

It varies from school to school. I live in Denver, and my school is pathetic. Our average GPA is in the low-mid 1's.

Seeing as the grading scale at my shool requires a minimum of 70% to pass anything....That's going to be a bit difficult....

I do seem to see high grades around here, so either you guys are really smart or the OP has a point. Trying to compare with the US system is a little tricky though.

I guess if you grade on a curve that is true. But GPAs are based on a numerical point system.

C is still average, and will probobly stay that way for years to come. On a side note, I think inflated GPA's due to honors/AP classes, are a joke.
