Remember David Daleiden, the guy released the heavily edited Planned Parenthood videos and was recently indicted by a grand jury in Texas as a result of those videos. Well it seems like he may soon be in trouble in another state as California Investigators searched his home in Orange County and removed multiple hard drives and his personal computer

California Attorney General Kamala Harris said last summer that she would investigate whether Daleiden broke laws in the course of his sting operation, which spurred a huge political battle over Planned Parenthood's federal funding. Daleiden filmed part of his project in Planned Parenthood clinics in California.

Investigators took Daleiden's personal laptop and multiple hard drives from his Orange County, Calif., home, according to a source close to Daleiden. They also attempted to take his phone as he was talking to his attorneys, the source said.

Some what unsurprisingly, Daleiden accused the AG of corruption and claims he did nothing wrong

"This is no surprise — Planned Parenthood's bought-and-paid-for AG has steadfastly refused to enforce the law against the baby body parts traffickers in our state, or even investigate them--while at the same time doing their bidding to harass and intimidate citizen journalists," he said in a statement. "We will pursue all remedies to vindicate our First Amendment rights."

Source

The videos released by daleiden caused government investigations into Planned Parenthood, but as far as I know they have yet to find any wrongdoing

Nutters are going to be nutty. I wont stoop to the level of saying this is conservatism and it must be destroyed. He is just a moron and a liar. I hope our right wingers will show the same level of restraint next time a goofy college kid says something stupid and it's perceived to be liberal.

They should charge the jackass for negligent homicide for spurring that planned parenthood shooting with his bullshit videos.

Ok, good thing i did look into it, they are getting in trouble for other stuff. Seems they broke the law, and the law won.

Completely agree. Next time someone thinks that freedom of speech is unconditional, or that "words don't hurt", cite this; the amount of damage this guy has done is potentially limitless, it will be hate-fuel for decades of hyper-conservative domestic terrorists.

When the videos have real-world repercussions and it is likely that they spurred others to harmful action...yes, we can damn well hold people accountable.

It's a fine line, but what this person did might not be covered in free speech laws.

And if he didn't break those laws, well ,get him on other things!

But officials with Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation and their allies say he used false identification, broke confidentiality agreements and recorded without consent, among other charges. Besides facing at least two civil lawsuits, Daleiden has been indicted in Harris County, Texas, for using false identification and trying to buy human tissue. I just noticed something weird: Daleiden's home was raided in California where the Attorney General is named Kamala Harris and earlier Daleiden (or his group) was indicted in Harris County, Texas (which I think is where Austin is located, which is pretty much the liberal part of Texas). From what I understand Kamala has received campaign contributions from Planned Parenthood and is currently running for the Senate and Daleiden and his supporters have pointed this out. I have also heard the claim that the investigators took evidence of Daleiden's wrongdoing but left behind other evidence that depicted Planned Parenthood in a bad light.

Daleiden seems fairly confident and unafraid so maybe the chances of him getting convicted are quite low. The California action is probably a bigger threat than the Texas action, I think even if he was convicted in Texas the governor would probably pardon him.

Also I'm a bit intrigued by this sentence "they also attempted to take his phone as he was talking to his attorneys". So they tried to take his phone but didn't? Is this because he was on the phone with his attorney and so that prevented them from being legally able to take the phone?

Daleiden is the one claiming all that crap.

Haven't followed the story all that closely...but what did he do that was illegal? Is he up against any actual charges that would warrant this kind of response? I know about the fake driver's license and a misdemeanor count regarding an email...is that it? I don't agree with the guy but this seems extremely heavy handed.

I'm not at all surprised to find that wackos are wackos. Any thinking person would look at abortion as a struggle between rights and interests. His answer is " NO NO NO NO NO!!!" It's like when a crazy preacher is found to have a large collection of children's shoes. Idiots are always so surprised by everything......

Exactly, this isn't about political affiliation. He blatantly lied and edited footage which has resulted in significant harm to Planned Parenthood, which many people have been itching to do in for decades.

He has done major damage to a national organization that helps people all over the country and on top of that he inspired a shooting spree with his bullshit.

This isn't simple misleading here. He has done potentially irreparable damage to a national organization and incited violence. He definitely needs to be hung out to dry for this, and while we are at it throw Fox news under the bus too.

Their stupid asses played that shit day and night for so long simply because it pushed their agenda and it is sickening. They should have been able to do fact-checking to find out it is bullshit, but I am sure they didn't and simply didn't care. They have a base to tend to and all!

As far as I can tell (and correct me if I am wrong), he's only broke two actual laws, neither warranting this kind of response from the government. If he's done damage to an organization they have a right to sue for whatever damages they perceive him to have caused. I certainly don't agree with him, and I do believe he has to account for his actual crimes, but from what I can see this is revenge, not justice.

@Renevent42: He falsified info and deliberately spread it intending to bring down not some random company, but a national government organization that provides important services to people acrossed the country. He also inspired a fucking shooting spree. He deserves the hammer and then some.

He mislead/lied...which is not illegal. He can be liable for damages, of course, but that's not what's happening here. Regarding the shooting spree he would have to be connected to it, which it was not, and/or called for that action, which again, as far as I know, he never said anything along those lines.

I get you don't like him but we are supposed to be a nation of laws where people in power (the AG, in this case) are not supposed to use their office for witch hunts or to destroy individuals no matter how unsavory their views may be. Again, and some please correct me if I am wrong, he's only being charged with two offenses, neither which warrant this level of action. They are essentially fishing at this point and is similar to what have been done to other people in the past (look at people targeted in the equality movement for instance).

Libel and slander are illegal, especially when they do damage to a corporation/individual/entity. If you lie and mislead the public causing investigations it hurts not only the reputation of an entity but also their bottom line and those they service.

This isn't a witch hunt, we're simply trying to hold someone accountable for their deplorable actions.

Criminal defamation isn't common and depends on the state law. Defamation is usually a civil issue

Actually as far as I know, in California he has not been charged with anything. He is being investigated currently for illegal actions during the course of making his videos which is why they seized his laptop and hard drives. This is after he was indicted by a Texas grand jury for a felony and misdemeanor charge

Lol. I'm not anti abortion and I don't support his beliefs. I believe it should stay legal. I just like how people try to destroy others when they say things they dont like. Throw him in jail for daring to defy popular opinion. I agree that freedom of expression and speech need to be severely curtailed in this country. We should pass more laws and make it more difficult for ppl to express onerous opinions. Otherwise, someone could be offended.

But in all seriousness, I disagree with the WBC, the KKK, the neo-nazis, etc. etc., but despite that, I still think they have a right to express their opinions and demonstrate. The ACLU agrees with me, but there are people like yourself that would probably have them shot dead or thrown in jail for speaking about such hateful things.

This guy is a scumbag; hopefully he'll serve a lot of time in prison. And in prison, he'll have enough time to think over how much lives he has damaged while being raped by Rodrigo.

What part of spreading false information did you not understand? If he wants to be anti-abortion he can be, there are plenty of anti-abortion groups that are untouched by law enforcement. However what you can't do is forge evidence to frame someone for a crime that was never committed.

I think the success of the James O'Keefe ACORN hatchet job just encouraged more of this kind of behavior.
