can a American citizen go into North Korea? One of my buddies was telling me that if I went into North Korea (don't know why i would want to go, just hypothetically(sp?) speaking) i would probally be detained when i landed at the airport, so my question is, is their any american citizens inside North Korea or is my friend wrong.

I imagine any Americans who visit are closely followed by a detail of officers whose job it is to make sure the tourists see only the good aspects of the country.

Every person of this planet can, technically, visit any country. Whether or not the US deems it permissible is a different story. Law's aren't everything.

Is it really that hard to put an "an" before American? And I don't think they're allowed in for tourism, but I'm sure if you're a reporter or something you could get in.

I think so, but you would be stalked by a division of NK Special Forces.

You can't fly into N.Korea. You'd have to go to S. Korea and then take a the train across. N. Korea actually has a website where you can contact them about "tours".

Just for a visit? I'm not really sure, I think you need to have some type of permission from the govenment if you wanted to travel there. Even then you'd be closely monitered and not allowed to travel wherever you want. So even if you could go, why would you want to?

It's simple. Assuming one is able, that person can walk, for example, from US territory into Canadian territory. It might be a little more complex elsewhere, but it is possible. One does simply walk into Mordor.

I'm pretty sure trade embargoes come into effect there too.

Walking into N. Korea might not be the best idea. You'd have to cross over from China as from S. Korea you're not likely to get across the DMZ alive.

I saw a show about N. Korea where they interviewed people who secretly cross from N. Korea to China and back for work to feed their families. They have to be careful as N. Korea patrols even the Chinese border fairly often and if caught you go to prison. Average lifespan in a N. Korean prison is believed to be less than two years...

By all means, it would be a stupid move. I just hate that we live in a society where we believe laws define how we live. I mean, I love democracy, but I hate little regulations like the US Copyright Law that mandate music, or art, as a product, and not as an expression. One shouldn't be limited by the rules that surround them, because they oppress them. One can walk into N. Korea (be they intelligent or not).

That's really not the point, if you've been reading my arguments. But unless you speak from personal experience, I won't take your word.

I know what you were trying to say and it was stupid. I'm sure you would blindly finish that sentence with any place on the earth and it just makes me laugh that someone would atcually believe it.

Im sure if you were very short with curly hair, hairy feet, a friend who is also short, w/curly hair+hairy feet and a stunted thing with a dual personality disorder and a fetish for metal fingerwear and you snuck in via a route guarded by pretty large arachnid while a few thousand angry, unwashed guys start a fight at koreas front gate you would be able to get in.

Alternatively you could get some Ninja Wizards and Bears that shoot lasers from their eyes.

Just a bit of trivia, but the vast majority of life insurance policies have a specific clause which states that the policy does not apply if the person is in Burma............

Yes you can. I know this for a fact because my sister and her boyfriend did it last summer. You'll need to fly to South Korea and from there call the North Korean "tourist bureau".
