Can guys and girls be best friends?

If you had a girl friend whose best friend is a guy and he lives way closer to her than you, and they used tolike each other or one of em did, would you break up with your girlfriend?

1. How long have you been going out with her.

2. He might live closer, but why is that a reason to give her up? How hard is it to see her?

Pretty much saying if a girl isn't making a move to be more than just friends..they never want to be that.

Apparently there was a study done which proved that a guy and a girl can't be friends without the guy having an interest in her sexually, even if it is only a small interest (he may not even realise it).

Well one of my best friends is a girl, and I've known her literally as long as I can remember. I'm a human male and she's gorgeous so obviously I'm attracted to her, but whenever we talk it doesn't even cross my mind. A lot of my other friends always thought that we should get together, but honestly I wouldn't want to jeopardize what I have w/ her because I've seen friendships destroyed like that. We've both said numerous times that we love each other and she's called me her best friend for life.

Short answer is yes because sexual attraction doesn't even cross into my mind, but I know it's there because she's beautiful and I'm not gay.

it's one thing to have friends that are girls, no doubt. but if you're dating a chick and she tells you "this other guy is my best friend" then no, somethings wrong there. i always thought one of the basic foundations of a good relationship is that you're best friends with your spouse.

Yeah. I'm best friends with my ex and I encourage her other relationships and help her with them all the time. It's a non-issue really.
