In theory....yes.
EDIT: In theory, we can create a bomb large enough to destroy the planet...I'm not sure we currently have such fire power though.

See what? If it ever happens, won't we be dead?

Well from what I hear the U.S. and China (which I doubt) have enough firepower to destroy the planet 10 time over. Of course as I said I doubt this theory.compaq345682
do you mean Russia insted of China??? I didnt know that China had that many nukes.
and... well Im not sure if we could make the planet "disappear" so to speak... gravity would probably pul it back together. But with all the nukes going off at once it would certainly do some considerable damage.

You can't just blow up a planet. It would reform, but we'd all be dead. The gravity and stuff would pull it back together though. We can't just blow a planet into tiny shreds but we can destroy all life on the planet, all evidence of life, and anything we've ever created.fatzombiepigeon
Thank you we can destroy all life but not the planet itself like the death star could or some crap.

When people say that we have enough nukes to destroy the world x times over, they mean destroy the surface of it, not obliterate it. We couldn't even blow it apart far enough that it would need to be pulled back by gravity. Yeqah China has hardly any nukes. Anyways I suppose if you fire a nuke into the core of earth the planet would explode
I was just wondering if humans have enough firepower to completely destroy a planet. Think Deathstar explosion.compaq345682
it depends on what you are talking about, humans seem to think that destroying themselves would destroy a planet, that however is not true as long as the planet remains it will always reset itself. But if you are talking about completely obliterating a planet yes set in the correct place (near center of the earth) we have enough thermo-nuclear and other ordinance to completely destroy this planet; however that being said an explosion on the surface simply isnt strong enough to break the crust of the earth and not only is it unlikely that anyone would bury 1000 megatons worth of nuclear weapons and then detonate them but its just not going to happen. to answer your question yes humans do have enough firepower
I don't think we could completly destroy it, like Death Star destroy, but we could wipe everything off the surface and make in uninhabitable for thousends of years. But then again, we haven't made any real nukes for almost two decades so if we started up agian we could probebly make a lot stronger ones.

I didn't say it couldn't be done sometime in the future, I said it couldn't be done now. Either way, I think you're vastly underestimating how much energy it would take to annhiliate a planet. According to somebody with entirely too much time on their hands (besides us), it would take 3.75×10^14 joules to blow up the earth, which would require 4.16×10^14 kg of antimatter. That is beyond a ridiculous amount.[QUOTE="jointed"][QUOTE="sca321"]We couldn't even [QUOTE="muppet1010"][QUOTE="compaq345682"]Well from what I hear the U.S. and China (which I doubt) have enough firepower to destroy the planet 10 time over. Well, since Hydrogen bombs capacity is unlimited and hydrogen is one of the most common elements in the universe, I believehumanity can pull it off.

we cant even ( according to some scientists ) warm the planet and we're practically trying the way we dump crap into the atmosphere... there's no way we can annihilate the earth..
1 U.S nuclear sub has enough nukes on it to blow up the world 10 times over. My history teacher told us that when I was a senior in high school 2 years ago.

your history teacher is WAAAAAAAY off. the amount of firepower required to actually blow apart the earth is unimaginable. billions and billions of times more than humans even have the capacty to create.

I don't know, she was a smart teacher. Of course I could be using her term of "blowing up" out of context here.

I dunno, we can certainly annihalate the upper Crust and out layers of the earth(clean air, yadayada), but we still haven't even reached the mantle layer of the earth, have we?
I dunno. The Death Star just seems like a bad idea altogether...besides the whole "Let go of your senses, Luke" part.
