Can I file a police report on someone from another state?

Two months ago on reddit, I loan someone $800 for rent so they won't get an eviction, in exchange they would pay me back the $800 with a $25 interest. That person closed his reddit account, he vanish off of reddit. I got his name and address, is it possible for me to file a police report for fraud if that person is in another state?

So how exactly did you loan this person the money?

Did you get a written agreement? Also this is small claims stuff, you don't call the police over this sort of thing. Also since this person lives in another state, small claims really wont work.

Two things are wrong here. The name reddit, and loan are in the same sentence.

What you mean "Oh. My. God." People get recognition and a cool toy trophy from reddit for these sort of stuff.

I can tell you now that if you didn't sign any contract/written agreements then your screw. Honestly why in the world would you do loan any money without signing any agreements? I can tell you know that your not getting that $800 back so say by-by to that $825. [I'm not joking]

I can understand you wanted to help that person but this ain't one of them especially loaning $800 unless you know that person well enough to pay you back.

He can file in the jurisdiction where the individual lives. But he has to travel.

Also who loans money to strangers over the internet? Seriously that is just stupid to the max.

Well let's look at it like this, it may cost you more money for a Plane tickets depending on where your going and Plane tickets ain't cheap, then you gotta pay for jurisdiction, pay to go to court, and all that adds like over $1000. I'm sorry but your gonna have to let that $800 go. Lesson learn, don't ever loan any money to a stranger that you don't know. Ever.

We're not allowed to do a Witch Hunt or giving out personal information on Reddit. It's a serious offense, if anyone does that.

@thegerg: Small claims court has jurisdiction in the county that the court resides in. If the defendant lives in a different county than the plaintiff, the plaintiff must file the claim in the county that the defendant resides. If the defendant resides in a completely different state than the plaintiff, the plaintiff must file with the county and state in which the defendant resides in, in which case, depending on the state, unless the contractual agreement originated in that county and state, they won't even hear the case. Small claims courts are district courts and they don't have jurisdiction across county or state lines.

TL; DR District Court A in County B can't do shit about some dude in County C, State D.

Yes, you can. You might be able to contact your local authorities and they can send your information to the relevant municipalities.
