I currently have a D-Link DIR655 in my basement hooked up to my modem. I have two laptops, a desktop, and two Xbox's running off it. Problem is the signal is bad upstairs so I was wondering if I could hook up my other router upstairs and have it running wirelessly to my DIR655?

The theory is possible. I have it working currently on two routers in my home. One is in the room with the computers and the other by my TV and Xbox. I don't know if it's possible to do it with those specific models and for the models I have I had to get some custom firmware.

I would suggest doing a search for client bridge networking and dd-wrt (dd-wrt is the firmware I had to use, you may not need it but at least their forums will help you figure out what you need to do).

Most routers cannot do it by default because the option is disabled. This is why I needed custom firmware.

DISCLAIMER: This should not be attempted, under any circumstances, by someone not adept in the field of wireless technology and/or routers. You could permanently damage your hardware, accidentally use an illegal bandwidth, etc. Please read everything you can find on the subject matter before continuing in this endeavor and if you feel like you are in over your head, do not attempt. It is much cheaper to simply run a cable than it is to purchase an additional router. I personally fatally bricked one router in the attempt. Fortunately, I had recently bought it and had not yet put on any custom firmware so I was able to return it. You may not be so lucky.

Also, these sorts of networks can cause wireless interference that messes with other wireless devices. Please make sure to use discretion and common sense.
