He's absolutely correct. All word applications are cross platforms between mac and PC. I work at a help desk that deals with this day in and day out... Just make sure you are saving it as DOC and not DOCX, use the Save As option to do this.
If he's got Word. Also, if you've got Office 2007, documents will not perfectly transfer over to Office 2008 (the newest Mac edition) if you save them in newest format (i.e. .docx). It might be openable on a Mac program called Preview, even without Word. But he won't be able to edit it or do anything besides read it.
Yes. You can open doc files with the app Pages. (Comes w/ teh mac) Darth-Caedus
Pages does not come with Mac OSX.
