He didn't. He doesn't really even have scars. The thing is, he was once a comedian. A horrid comedian, but still a comedian. He makes very little money, so he has to steal stuff from a chemical plant. He falls into a chemical vat, and goes crazy and stuff I guess. jaydough
Actually the whole failed comedian thing was one of the MULTIPLE origin stories for Joker in the comics. What the TC is talking about is specific to Dark Knight, which yes, they are scars (some depictions of Joker in the comics also have this "scar smile") But in TDK he didn't get his skin bleached because even though I'm sure there is probably some chemical or chemical combo that can turn your skin pigment white, the odds of it actually sitting in a vat that you somehow fall into is probably left to the comics. But what Nolan did keep from the comics was the fact that he has no definitive origin, he's just there causing chaos.
wow with all the dark knight freaks on this board I would think somebody had the right answer but anyways Ill post my thought. Havnt seen movie in forever so might be wrong.
He gets his scars from his father cause his father was beating the jokers mom and the joker saw it and so his father says letsbut a smile on that face and there ya go.
The other thing he says is to cheer up his wife. His wife is ugly or something? dotn remember and shes depressed so the joker takes a razorblade and swishes it inside is mouth to show her that he doesnt care what she looks like and he is fine the way she looks.

They deffinitly didn't use the killing joke backstory in Dark Knight, because he really did have those scars in the movie.
[QUOTE="ferron321"]I remember hearing he fell into a vat of acid in one of the old comics.esbasticawhat kind of acid makes those scars and nothing else? Good point. I think it just messed his face up in general. Still I could be, and probably am, wrong. :P

his father cut a smile into his face, as the joker explains in the movie. that was the greatest part of the movie i thought, when joker starts talking in his angry voice, which is obviously some sort of split personality resembling his abusive father.
