I'm looking to try some new kinds of beer.  I had always just drank my mom's beer, and never asked for any other kind.  However, I want to find a beer of my own.

Don't recommend anything else except for beer.  THANKS :)

I live in SouthWest VA btw.  So don't recommend any beers that are locally found only.

Chimay Bleue. One of the best tasting Trappist ales ever made. A must-try if you're a beer person.

Well it depends on your preferences. Do you like strongly hopped beers or do you prefer something less bitter? Do you want low carb beers (light or lite beers) or are regular beers fine? What types of beer to you prefer (lagers, ales, stouts)? I personally have never drank any beer but I am taking a beer making class. From what I hear maybe Pale Ale of the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company or some of the Pilsner Lagers.

Where do you live? My favorite beer of all time is Fat Tire, bottled by the New Belgium Brewing Company, but unfortunately it is only available in the western half of he US. Other than that I'm a big fan of most any Samuel Smith's brew, especially their Imperial Sout (not to be confused with their Oatmeal Stout).

The best beer in the U.S. is Pyramid (straight out of downtown Berkeley, CA).

If you can't get ahold of that, go with Fat Tire, it's great. Sierra Nevada is good too (I'm from California :P).

I live in Southwest VA, so I doubt most of the beers posted here are available where I am.

I live in Richmond, VA, so yes, unfortunately Fat Tire is not available. However, you can pick up most of the Samual Smith's brews at your local Wine & Beer store (not your local grocery store). They're all good, but I'm especially fond of the Pale Ale and the Imperial Stout.

Perhaps try some of the German made lagers (either Helles or Dunkel). They're not too bitter (not as heavily hopped) and are quite malty. Unfortunately I don't know of any actual brands so I can't recommend any in particular or if they are available in VA but ask/look around.

Blue Moon is good. Their pumpkin ale might still be out and if it is, get it. Best beer I've had in a while. Budweisers new Ale is surprisingly good too. Sam Adams if you love the hoppy flavor. New Castle, killians, or Heinekin Dark (however you spell it). I also have a great recipe if any of you want it. It uses Bavarian hops.

BS.

America has great micro breweries.  Forget Bud and Miller.  That IS TRASH.  But saying american beer is trash is moronic.

On to topic though, try out anything from Bell brewing company.  Two hearted Ale, best Indian pale Ale ever made.  That or luganitas IPA.  Great stuff.

I like Heineken.  It must be very cold, also like the new Bud Select.  But I rarely drink beer, only when it's very hot out by the pool. Maybe a 12 pack per year, so I might not be the one to ask.
