How far do you think a person could get before they collapse while trying to remove their own brain? For example, let's say that someone has a really high tolerance for pain, so that it doesn't deter them from inflicting damage to themselves. This person uses a saw blade to cut off the top of their scalp, thus exposing their brain. At this point, they reach into their opened skull and begin pulling on their brain. Do you think they'd be able to pull it out before collapsing? Essentially, at what point will their brain stop sending the necessary signals to their arms, causing them to stop pulling? Do you think such a person would be able to yank their brain out with one strong tug before they collapse?

Thinking of new ways to commit suicide? o.Ov13_KiiLtz

Nope. I was working on some homework and ran into some trouble. I got to a point where I said (sarcastically) to myself I feel like yanking my brain out of my skull. Then I began wondering if it were actually possible to do that.

TC the way you state the situation (cut the scalps etc.) sounds very painful. Eek!

Anyways, once you try to pull the brain up (imagine), human will definitely and instantly collapse. I could be wrong, though.

You know, I tried it once. I succeeded. But I couldn't insert it back anymore because I was too dumb to do it...and my brains started rotting.
Afterwards I woke up from this horrible dream. Only to resume neuroscience lectures.

You would have to cut through the temple to make a gap wide enough to remove the brain. And when the temple is damaged, you die. So, no.

BUT, anyone stupid enough to do that would have a tiny brain, and so: They could make a narrow hole in their head exposing the brain without cutting the temple. But the amount od blood lost would be insane, and the moment you touch the brain even the slightest bit you would get concusion REAL freaking bad. And you would die before you could manage to yank it out.

There are surgical procedures which make it possible to expose the brain without causing death.

Do you think such a person would be able to yank their brain out with one strong tug before they collapse?

BluRayHiDef

Look up anatomy...once you damage the spinal cord, you're inducing paralysis and death, as the other parts of the brain controlling heart and lungs get no signals to them.

You would pass out before you could even get to your brain. Even if you managed to touch yourbrain, I think the pain of touching it or tugging it would be so bad you would pass out regardless.

Cutting the top of your skull off and attempting to remove your brain does not involve the spinal cord.

Uh, the brain is attached to the spinal cord.

This doesn't mean anything. Damaging the brain itself does not cause damage to the spine. If I stabbed someone in their prefrontal cortex, I would cause absolutely no damage to the spine. None what so ever.

umm major pain killers that don't mess up your focus and precise cutting the skull off and super careful putting your hand around your brain and pull super fast. but come on who can take major pain killers and still be able focus umm good luck then precise cutting good luck with all that pain killers, then formost just touching the brain can be bad to good luck getting your hand around it

You won't feel anything, but you'll experience changes in your cognition, motor skills, and your perception via your senses.
