iv'e notice a lot of bmw owners and enthusiasts (i guess) on here. i've been thinking about getting one but i know nothing about them. model wise or motor (im used to american muscle cars).

oh yeah and an older model too, as i only want to spend 3-4k on the car before paint rims etc.

yup but thats my price range. im not trying to turn it into a drift car or anything. i just want a better daily driver and maybe the + of some get up and go as well

you will find some90s 3to 7 series but they will be 100k miles+.

there areturbos from kasa or perhaps turbonetics but i am not sure what the rods from that era will handle.

You're going to have to get an old 90s Bimmer for that price. Trust me, you don't want to go down that road.

yeah thats what i was thinking. are they high maintenance?

Speaking from a mechanic point of view as i have worked as a junior mechanic with my dad and uncle. I would say stay away from bmw if all you can go in is 4k because the repair bills are so high on any foriegn car it is unreal the price for parts. Since you will almost never find any parts in the junkyard you need to buy them brand new. I would stay away from them just do to the repair cost.
