Come back 300 years, and if it's still around, perhaps we'll call it a classic.

Of course we can. I would love to. It's definitely be counted as a classic because I think it will never fade in time, time will strengthen it.

Also, I can't understand any of the comments on the video.

Oh, well I suspect this guy will be on iTunes soon enough. This video and song is really well done. This is sh!t I'd introduce to my friends. More real and new than lil'Wayne in my opinion.

edit: I don't follow hip-hop lately so I'm not exactly the best guy for that. But I know good music when I hear it.

Sounds like your average rap song:

Yo dawg mise brudda was so tuff but he gotta softa side
He lud his fally much bu nao he gone due to homicide
Wut his fally gonna do now dat he aint dare to provide sum lovin?
His babys motha caint suppote no child so she gotta moov in wit her cousin.

Ok, his lyrics definitely flowed better than mine, but I just can't help but feel that many of the songs in this same category all have similar themes. That is, the harshness of the real world. I really don't see why this one sticks out from the rest.

It's a nice song, but it doesn't have any staying power. It really is cliche, and the production isn't that great. Just because you enjoy the song in the moment doesn't mean future generations will still enjoy it or even appreciate it. Hell, even Jay-Z or Biggie can't be considered classics by the majority of music listeners. A classic is something that transcends not just generations, but genres and that's a problem more inherent to hip hop than to any other kind of music.

If that's the case then what the hell does Jay-Z have to do to make an album that is considered a "classic"?! He has albums that frequently appear on "best albums of the 90s/2000s/all-time" lists plus he's one of the most famous people in music and has been for 10-15 years.

To us as hip hop fans, he's classic. No doubt about that. But how will the world see his music in 100 years?

Who knows how people 100 years from now will see any types of music? People that far in the future might not even care about The Beatles.

In order to be classic, is it necessary for it to be viewed so 100 years from now? Will 25 or 50 not suffice? There is plenty of music not 100 years old viewed as classic now, and we can't say for sure how Jay Z's music will be viewed then. I think his music and some other rapper's will be considered classic 20 years from now. It's just too damn good not to be regardless of genre.

I am no fan of the rap genre (tis just not for me) but there is definitely good rap music out there. Stuff like Almost Famous and B.O.B is good and then when combined with other genres you can get amazing stuff like this.

Thing is this song is just pure crap. Like I said it has no freaking structure whatsoever. Talking over the same looped beat the entire song is not rap. There is no chorus or anything and on top of that the rapping itself is piss-poor....

If you think every song is suppose to have a chorus you're fooling yourself and why would the beat change, that's would throw off the rhythm and flow of the song's theme
