No one can hate Arghoslent! :oUsually lyrics dont bother me, unless its Christian or those nazi/White Power bands simply because its not meant for me, especially NS Black Metal.
All Humans are equally worthless!

I haven't really actually strongly disagreed with lyrics. However, once I listened to the lyrics of Saving Abel's Addicted more closely, I lost a little respect for the song. But its certainly possible for me to listen to music when I don't necessarily like the lyrics.
I can enjoy the occasional song in it's own right, but I can't be a fan of the band that made it.I can't support music that has any positive message regarding theistic dogmas.

Tell me more of this band and I'll change my mind...

BAM!
Try that
The answer would be No. If I hear a song that's saying that cop killing is ok then I'm going to turn it off. If I hear a song that goes against morals and basic life principals then I'm going to turn it off. If I hear a song that curses God or is anti-religious then I'm going to turn it off. If you can listen to any song that you supposedly say you disagree with you really don't disagree with the song and you're embracing the message behind the song.
Meh, I can't agree really. There are many reasons other than lyrics to enjoy a certain type of music. I don't enjoy Rage Against the Machine's very leftish politics, but I can't deny that their riffs are catchy and their guitar effects are pretty neat. Half the time, I tune out the lyrics. Ultimately, I'm buying music for music, i'm not buying a book so i'm not buying it for its message: i'm being it for its musical quality. If the ONLY thing music offered was the message behind its lyrics, I'd be in agreement with you...unfortunately, that's far from the case. The answer would be No. If I hear a song that's saying that cop killing is ok then I'm going to turn it off. Honestly, I think that's an interesting issue as well. I've got a couple cds where the main songwriter ended up killing someone or being involved in killing someone (Burzum, Dissection). I've never really seen the music of the artists as ever being in line with/promoting their motivations for the murders they committed, but on the other hand, the music certainly does provide an interesting look into the psychology of someone who would end up doing such an act. It's kinda like Nirvana, I suppose. You listen to it, and while I don't think it's right to go into it thinking "this music is promoting suicide," it's interesting to be able to peer into the psyche of someone who suffered from the personal issues that Cobain did. Then you find out about other bands where the pedophilia of certain members is revealed long after the music came out (Static-X, Decrepit Birth).....I'll admit that that gets a little awkward.Absolutely. I can even deal with the actual band members being dicks too.

I can't stand christian music. The lyrics just make me annoyed. -Sniper99-I simply tend to hate the vocals, which are almost universally either punk-ish or alt-rock-ish. I tend to dislike both styIes rather significantly.

I have been having this struggle with one of my favorite bands. The singer has been ignorant, lazy, and in jail for drug use and assault. He was also witness to a murder. He has been kicked out of the band but now he is working on a new band. At first I refused to listen to him because he was one of my idols and just kind of let me down a bit. Now I am starting to listen to his new stuff and I am liking it. I will support his music but I never will ever really truly like him as my idol again.Absolutely. I can even deal with the actual band members being dicks too.

It's definitely hard to separate an artist's real life deeds from his music, for sure. The lead singer/guitarist for a black metal band I like, Dissection, was involved in a murder with rather nasty/hateful motivations. Those themes don't really come through in his music or lyrics (which, granted, are pretty Satanic), but some days, I can't help but get a little squeamish...while on other days, the thought won't even cross my mind. I've mostly had the opposite experience from you though...there's been a couple bands (Lacuna Coil, In Flames, High on Fire, Arch Enemy) where I met the band, and they were such great people, that I couldn't help but like their music a little bit more. There was also one case where a band I just couldn't stand (Bleeding Through) actually became harder for me to hate, and a little more listenable, just because I met/chatted with a couple members of the band, and they were such cool/nice guys (well, guy and girl) that I couldn't really bring myself to hate their stuff or badmouth their work.[QUOTE="Nifty_Shark"]Honestly, I think that's an interesting issue as well. Myself, I try not to support bands that have jerk members, or have done controversial things (Mayhem, Burzum).Absolutely. I can even deal with the actual band members being dicks too.

I like a lot of Godsmack and I disagree with many bits of their songs. There are others besides that but I'm lazy and dont want to type them all
Sure can. I like metal, and a lot of metal has pagan, satanic, or anti-christianity subject matters.
there aren't really any lyrics i strongly disagree with. i think rap lyrics are stupid, but i don't listen to it anyway, because it's rap. there aren't really too many rock songs with lyrics i disagree with and i listen to them. shoeman12
