can you explain to me the story behind the movie Prometheus?

i just saw the movie. i get what happened in the movie, but after i finished watching the movie i reserched what people think about the ending, and i see people taking about "engineers" and "gods" and so on. i am confused about all of this. Am i missing something? Like is there a book your suppoosed to read on this movie? Im really confused about what this movie is all about. like i get these people found the planet they were looking for because of them symbols. can you give me a IN DEPTH VERY DETAILED explanation about the story about this movie and how it follows to the ending to a sequal? i am not good at explaining this so please bare...
