I've been practicing high roundhouse kicks on my punching bag and it's actually a lot of fun.

I can reach maybe to the equivalent of my chest level on the bag, which isn't bad.

It would be fun to get good at both left and right leg kicks, so I guess I got some more practice to do. :P

Do you practice your roundhouse kicks?

Yes I can. I can do head level with both legs, but I would never actually use that in a real fight.

Is it just too dangerous is what you're saying? For the person kicking?

Yeah, pretty much. It might look flashy in the movies or in a demonstration, but in a real fight situation, I would stick to striking the opponent's legs/knees/torso.

That's a good point, but I figure if I can kick successfully high, then I can kick successfully low, although I'm sure I should practice that too.

Otherwise, high roundhouses are fun and are a good workout.

In a street fight using legs is pretty hard, but if u can rly hit the target then ur good to go...because legs are much longer than arms, but usually in streetfights ppl just get the fight to the ground and there is not much kicking just getting on top of your opponent and beating the crap out of him, the only good kick u could use would be strong low kick to get the opponent down on the ground then just jump on him and let the fists do the talking!!!

From what I gather, legs are used as a last resort kind of thing if there's a "golden opportunity."

Otherwise, it's mostly hand striking or low kicks. I suppose you can knee in the clinch.

In a clinch, do you ever strike the other person's head with your own shoulder, if that makes sense?

well...if his head is near your shoulder u should definetly do it lol, but knees are far more damaging imo

I usually just look for an openning and when I see one, I go for it. Whatever works, I guess.

I know how to do it, and once I've done quite a few, I'm pretty good, but it's my worst kick.

I can do alot of kicks including the roundhouse thanks to my Tae-Kwon-Do training.

Unfortunately, 99% of them are useless in a real fight. The only one I have used with sucess in a real fight is the shuffle side kick and that is very effective.

I heard from my friend who does Karate thatthe most effective kick in a fight is usually the front thrust kick. Right in the chest. Not much to learning it either :)

I could probably learn a shuffle sidekick too.

I used to do taekwondo so I can kick people at head level. I've never actually used it in real life though other than to show off :P

A front thrust is useful for pushing them away.

The shuffle side is awesome because when you get good at it you can pop it off quickly and do some good damage as you can get ALOT of force behind it. You also have the luxury of being able to use it to kick them in the gut, groin, or face.

Sidekicks are actually much harder than they look, due to the idea that to do it, you have to use muscles you aren't used to.

Imo, roundhouses and front thrusts are much easier.
