Same. I lived in Canada for 9th and 10th grade and then finished high school in the States and I didn't notice a single difference.

Canadians so far, US eductational system is messed up, it like the least system the US look forward to. The only people that helps are the teachers.

i'm an american and would vote canada. america tends to teach to the lowest common denominator and not to brag or be all "holier than thou" but school bored me to death. what they'd teach for 2 weeks i could usually get in a day or 2 and i'd get in trouble for skipping the other days. i ended up dropping out at 16 because i'd ace all my tests and never do homework (i like to rationalize that passing all the tests should have shown i knew the material alas, very very few teachers accepted that) i like to think any other country in the world should have better standards for education in the US. i think the education system here is extremely hit and miss.

Canada needs AP exams that let you enter post secondary schools faster, I'm tired of being bombarded by the constant morons in my classes.

Canada has complete opposites in every  city. You can have one school that's so well funded, it has a hairdressing salon inside the school as part of a university transition program and then my school, halfway across town (population is under 100,000 so its not a gigantic city) my school doesn't even get enough money to buy a few cans of the same color paint to repaint the bathroom stalls when they get written on.

Not saying my school is COMPLETE crap, there's a few good aspects. But our gym equipment is old, falling apart even. Our science wing (hallway, you cant even call it a "wing") half of the time is cold as ice, as are our portable classrooms, ALL the computers are win95 and don't support any of the plugins the curriculum websites use. On top of that, we have a smoke pit with a sign right beside it that says "smoke free zone, no smoking on premesis". The teachers' explanation is that they are not allowed to let students wander the road with cigarettes/pot (which they often just overlook the fact that drug deals go on every day right in front of them) because homeowners near the property complained.

All that is crap, but what makes it worse is the lack of good teaching staff the school has. Two teachers regularly whack off in their offices during class, one excuses himself to go to the bathroom and do so after about 10 minutes of staring at girls inappropriately and one of the school councellors makes inappropriate sexual innuendos at girls for their entire appointments with him.

I've not gone to many other schools in BC, but if they're all like this, god help us all.

I am sure they both have their problems...my schools used to be really good then the state took over and had to lay off a bunch of teachers and limit the amount of paper and privatize the printers and privatize the lunch and change bus routes. they recently changed the tardy policy so now kids can't lose points for being tardy. The shcool over all is worse than it was when the city had control of it..i don't know what it is like in canada but i am guessing it isn't much different.

As a Canadian, I'd have to give it to the U.S. for the "wrong" reasons. Why would a Canadian say this? Well, because the funding for schools in Canada is horse****, plain and simple. In the past 3 cities I have lived in, schools that contain French coarses or education in French recieve superior funding, and it kills you on the inside when your school is underfunded and old, yet a French school has cash flowing like a river. For grade 4-6, I went to a small english school that has existed since the 60s, and do you know how old the dictionaries were that we used? 1964 was the publication date, and most of the other literary resources were primordial to say the least. As for the french immersion school down the street, well, they have an electronic sign, laptop programs, and had their exterior re-vamped just last year. While I was at the English school though, I still remember there were times when there would not be garbage bags or soap in the boy's bathroom. So, that's why America's schooling system is better, because in Canada, your school is usually under-funded unless it is French.

From my understanding they aren't all that different...In some places schools are well funded in others...not so well funded.

It's depends on the level of education and the state of which you go/grew up in.

When it comes to Post-Secondary Education the US wins hands down.

However for things like grade school all the way up untill the end of highschool, it varies where you are.  I would Canada has a much more rounded public education.  The US is far more disparate.  Schools in most inner cities are terrible, and most southern states rank terribly in contrast with northern states or east cost areas.

For the sake of this argument, I'll say the US has a better education system overall, including post-secondary, however Canada has a far better public school education system compared to a large part of the US.
