Alright, well we can all say that there is/was a big hype about the USA 2008 election. Even in Canada! The thing is, We Canadians just had an election just a couple weeks ago, and trust me, no one really cared about it. My question is, how come everyone gets so excited about American politics when they don't even take part of it?

The fate of other countries was at stake with this American election. To many, the difference between Obama and McCain is war or no war; Economic prosperity or economic depression.

I am a Canadian, and I am more interested in the US election because of the impact the United States has on the world. This is a huge event, and will affect all of us. Also, there is a huge emphasis on this election in the media (perhaps because much of the media in Canada has roots in the USA), glorifying it much more than ours.

American politics create such an uproar because everyone in the world knows that in some way Americans affect everyone in it. People like to keep tabs to know what type of trouble they will bring in before it happens. Thankfully it seems like Obama was the lesser of two evils, at least for the rest of the world.

The American election was probably the most historic election anywhere in some time.

The Conservative party was obviously going to win. And they announced the election about a month before it happened.

In America, the race was very tight (it was supposed to be, anyway) and they've been running for 2 freaking years.

Yes I am from Canada in fact. I know lots of people are calling Obama the next Karl Marx ect. but frankly I could care less how he effects the internal workings of your country. It's how he will affect the rest of the world that bothers me, I will wait and see if he chooses to place fixing you country on the backburner in favour of world conque....*cough*....a peace campaign.

We all knew the results of the Canadian election before it was over.

Obama is an interesting chap. I'm glad he got in, but his views on NAFTA are nothing short of terrifying. Expect changes for all our export-driven industries in the next couple of years.

america's politics is to put israel before the country, they're always sucking up to that country and giving it more aid than the whole of africa and south america combined but no one questions it because of political correctness.

The American election campaign has a lot to do with large fund raising opportunities and public appearance than it actually has to do with politics. Most Canadian elections are just that, elections.

@ harden, that was very narrow minded comment, that tiny country always comes in number one foreign policy, even though there's problems in sudan, rawanda, ukraine and you forget aipac is one of the biggest pressure groups. See how Ron Paul ultimately lost because his foreign policy towards that country was drastically different. The media tries to make it seem only arabs , liberal hippies or neo nazis only have this view which isnt true.

Canawho?

Well, I guess Canada does not have nearly as much influence as the US, making the Canadian election more of a Canadian thing...

Doesn't have as much influence eh......I seriously hope you are kidding. I also don't understand what is wrong about the elections in a country only affecting the occupants of said country, we don't have to make a spectacle of it. It's not like elections are the second coming of Robo-Jesus or anything.

Why is it historic? Because the fact that a black man became a president of a white country? OK!

Well it was an election about nothing that no one wanted that Harper called because he thought he could get a majority. People were pretty unhappy about it, and in the end nothing changed othere than Canada wasting 300 million dollars in the middle of a depression.
