Will you eat it? Also comes in: Pizza in a can. French toast in a can. Cinnamon rolls in a can.

"Why a can? Because, when combined with techniques similar to those used to preserve Meals Ready-to-Eat for soldiers, an aluminum can keeps food fresh for a full year or even longer. Yes, that's right: A fresh, year-old sandwich."

Willmy fellowOTers buy this?

I don't get it. Is there an actual sandwich in there or is it a drink? The top of the can looks like a soda can.

That's what I thought.

But from the sound of the article it's food. The top is perplexing though.

Exactly. I think it's drink. The article never said the contents were solid.

Well the pictures suggest that the contents are solid, and the top looks like the type of handle you would get on a can of spam.

One of the pic caps says that the pb&j can has a hot dog bun and 2 packets of peanut butter and jelly.

From what I understand, yes it is the actual food item inside the can. I was thinking about the same thing about the can and thought it was liquid that taste like BBQ chicken sandwich and pizza.... ewww

Yes, and if use properly this invention would have real world beneficial application. As the article mentioned soliders on the front line and survivors in Haiti can probably benefit from this

Well that's good enough for me.

if you read the article, though, the product she got was not in the can. It was fresh and simply shipped to her, a "hot dog bun" with two packets of pnut butter and jelly.

the product still needs to undergo the actually processing that canned goods go under, namely to prevent botulism.

Honestly, though, this product is not that bad: if you have ever eaten a Twinkie or other Hostess cake product, that is likely slightly worse than this lol.

A twinkie is a much simpler product than a sandwich though. I still don't get the point of this disgusting product. A sandwich takes all of, what, 1 minute to make? Just make the thing.

a twinkie is far from simple http://www.fooducate.com/blog/2010/06/11/a-visual-of-twinkies-37-ingredients/ http://www.divinecaroline.com/22107/35281-twinkie-ingredients-revealed though I do agree a pb&j sandwich takes only a handful of seconds to make lol. Not to mention bread is readily found everywhere, and pb and jelly have incredibly long shelf lives.

I don't watch the Colbert Report. In fact I don't watch a whole lot of TV, hence the thread about it here.

And judgingfrom the responses so far, it seems not that many people are aware of it either

eugh, the idea may not be so bad but I bet the sandwiches are awful. Though maybe if the can alone really does preserve food for long, it'll discourage sandwich makers from putting junk in the food they sell so it doesn't go off too quickly.

My only fear is this canned crap is getting us one step closer to meal-in-a-pill. Society has gotten so damn lazy that a company can now sell sandwiches in a can.

Yeah making a sandwich isn't very hard. Just get some bread and spread peanut butter and jam on it and you're done in a minute. In fact the sandwich isn't even ready in the can, you still have to make the sandwich. So what is the whole point of thisthen?
