Do you support the Death Penalty? Our class just had a debate about whether it should be legal or not.

I'm fully opposed to it. I believe that nobody has the right to take a life. People than asked if I were in the situation were someone murdered one of my loved ones. And to be realistic, I may say I want him dead, but I would hope I would be satisfied if justice was served in one way.

And remember, this could include the maniacs like Gacy, Dahmer, and Bundy. What they did was horrifying, but even they should deserve life: behind bars yes. A great movie to watch would be "A Time to Kill".

Capital punishment is great... wouldn't have Easter without it.

Dahmer was killed by an inmate - not the state.

"Yeah, let's burn him at the stake!"

Sound familiar?

"Let's put him to sleep in a painless way."

It's basically putting an animal to sleep...which is basically saying that we don't consider these people human...i.e....people couldn't do such things.

If people do some messed up stuff, put them to work to atone for these things.

Depends, there are lots of issues.

For one, killing is always wrong. We as humans know that it is always bad to kill.

But why should we keep criminals alive by wasting tax dollars that can go to medical research or give more books to children? Capital Punishment seems effective.

But what if their crime was too great? We should put the bastard to work in a holocaust camp-like enviornment until he is about to die, then nurse him back and kill him. Make his life hell until his very last breath.

That said, I still think this country uses the death penalty too lightly. Three drug charges shouldn't get you life in prison or the death penalty.

****ing deport them or something.

No, I don't support the death penalty.

The irony is that I'm not Christian and so many of the so-called "Christians" that I know do support it. Figure that one out.

I don't think that Capitals should ever be punished for anything. What right does the Federal Government have to come in and punish a state's capital for no reason? That's un-constitutional.

Like when Tallahasse wanted to feed Terry Schaivo and the feds are like "No way" and then BAM they punish the capital.

Seriously, capital punishment sucks. :|

I completely agree with you. I still don't get why conservatives support the death penalty but say that microscopic embryos in a petri dish have the same rights as you and me.

they also have the potential to become killers, but why not try to CHANGE a convict instead of killing them?

In Norway, there is a prison on a secluded island where prisoners are allowed to walk around wherever they want and help out with work around the farms, kitchens, etc. So far, 67 murderers have been released over the last 30 years and not a single one has been committed of ANY crime whatsoever.

This is what we should be doing.

Under the right circumstances, I believe whole-heartedly in capital punishment. I have to disagree with The_Ish. Killing in any circumstance is not wrong; murder is, but not killing. There are many people is the world who deserve to die. Personally, I feel that if the accusation against the defendent can be completely and undeniably proven, then that person deserves to die in the manner in which they murdered. If a serial killer (I see a distinction between killing and murder, but I am just using the terminology here)cut up his victims while they were still alive, then he should be cut up while still alive. Lethal injection is not enough punishment. Why should the serial killer experience an easy death when his victims suffered through theirs? I believe in justice. And while it may be somewhat in the vein of the Old West, frontier justice, I believe in equal recompense for the crime committed, else justice is not served.

Painlessly killing someone is a much easier punishment than locking them up for 70 years. I think that the death penalty is not only archaic and wrong, but it's hypocritical thinking that it's a bad punishment. They should throw them away forever and spare the trouble. That's what the rest of the world does.

I'm all about the death penalty. If anything, it isn't implemented enough in the United States.
