There's probably just enough power to run the lights, but not enough power to turn over your engine. Try getting it jump-started. Or if you have a battery charger, plug that in and wait an hour. Your car will most likely start. In fact, that exact same situation happened to me a few months ago. It's probably your battery. Luncbox1
Yeah, I'd go with this...
Also, how old is your battery? If it's relatively new (less than a few years old), then you might want to get your alternator checked out, too.
If it's not your battery after you test that it is definitly your starter, or or your spark plugs are burned out. So thats what you need to test if your battery is ok. ferrari2001
It's not the spark plugs... he'd be getting some feedback from the engine if that were the case..

True, but it could still be the starter,
So earlier this morning I tried starting my car and it wouldn't start. There was no sound from the engine when I turned the key in the ignition--no clicking. nothing. the radio turned on and all of the lights inside came on, so there was obviously power in the battery. any clue what the problem may be?Cheshyre9Did you bother to take a look at the engine?
Probably the battery. Either that's dead or it was killed by the alternator, in which case you'll have to replace both.
It may also be the starter, but that's a less likely scenario.
Barring that, some rodent crawled inside your engine compartment and nibbled some wires, so check the ones running to the starter. There's nothing wrong beyond that point, or else you'd hear noise but no engine turnover.
It could very well be your battery. You have just enough juice to run the electronics in your car as another poster said.
However, if this is the case you should be getting at least an audible 'click' of your solenoid when you turn the key. Not necessarily but it is not often that your battery will power lights and not your solenoid. Could happen though.
If your battery turns out to be good then it is your solenoid and possible bendix gear. Part of your starter. Could be your starter switch too.
