i'm talking about tom and jerry, popeye, bugs bunny, etc. they were so violent and awesome. elmer fudd shooting daffy duck point blank with a double barrel shotgun, popeye giving bluto a whacking while high on spinach, tom and jerry bashing each others craniums with mallets... imagine the uproar if squidward shot spongebob with a revolver like quick draw mcgraw?

A lot of the older cartoons were bad, we were just younger and have fond memories of them. Probably the only old stuff that holds up are the Looney Tunes shorts.

Well to be honest i don't watch cartoons anymore however i've seen the odd show like Spongebob etc.

I don't watch anime either as i'm not familiar with the different shows and unsure how to access it as the channels i have don't broadcast anime.

naw. i saw a cassette recently i put on for my friend's 3 yr. old, and it was so good, funny too. the only recent cartoons i think are any good are samurai jack and the cramp twins. others are wannabe epic fails, if such a thing exists.

I was filpping threw the channels the other dayand saw top and jerry. I was like I hasn't seen this stuff in over 20 something years. I was watching and I couldn't belive how violent cartoons were back then. People would flip now adays if they showed that stuff. And at the end of the show jerry the little mouse lit up a cigarette. My jaw hit the ground. Could you imagine the uproar if a kidscartoondid that now?

It makes you wonder are we going backwards in society?

You mean the one with the recycled opening that's going to focus entirely on a character that already had a huge arc in the first 26 episodes? Thus essentially overstaying her welcome?

spongebob imo is simpsons ditto copy, just child friendly. the new animations (in chowder too) just destroy the charm.

I'd say the American cartoons have declined, though there still are a few decent ones. I haven't really seen any anime on TV, but the ones I saw were entertaining.

2:30 am until 6 am on certain days of the week on channel 122 I'm up watching Ren and Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, CatDog, Action League NOW, Hey Arnold (on dvd). The stuff they got away with in those shows would put them in jail today. I loved it all.

Overall the new cartoons are pretty crappy. I am not saying that there are not a couple of good ones mixed in, but for the most part they just suck. I personally hate all the political correctness in the new cartoons. I will take the older cartoons over the new stuff any day.

cartoons are different but I wouldn't say better or worse, I used to love Disney Afternoon like Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck, Tale Spin, Goof Troop, and all that... I used to also love Garfield & Friends, the old one, Pinky and the Brain, and I grew up on cartoon movies like Robin Hood, American Tale, Land Before Time, Lady and the Tramp, Little Mermaid, Pinocio, etc I also like more mature cartoons, like Invader Zim, Ren & Stimpy, that old MTV and Liquid Television stuff like Beavis & Butthead, The Maxx, The Head, Aeon Flux, Daria and I like Adult Swim shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Boondocks, Samurai Shamploo, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, Afro Samurai, Cowboy Bebop, and network cartoons like Futurama, Family Guy, King of the Hill cartoons were good and are still good, just different, they've matured with my generation really well

yeah lol.. Which is weird if you think about it I mean there can do so much more on TV now then they could back in the day in terms of sex, violence etc. But cartoons you cant even do 1/3 of the things cartoons used to do which is very very weird lol. I mean even in The Animaniacs, some jokes they did were sooo dirty lol

Pfft. Actually I think that saying Looney Tunes is funny is a bit of a stretch.

The only ones that are any good are Daffy Duck and to an extent Bugs Bunny shorts.

Tom and Jerry on the other hand... I know that in Capitalist America that show has been milked to death but over here all we see, in my 20 years of existence, is the classic, excellent cartoons by Fred Quimby, and to an extent Chuck Jones.

That Chuck Jones stuff is awesome, and so were 90s cartoons like Ren and Stimpy and Rocco's Modern Life. I think somewhere in between cartoons lost their edge. Hanna Barbera, I don't see how people can sit through that.
