What are your views on holidays? including days important to you such as anniversary and birthday?

My point being, it'sfun to party or go out in the name of a certain holiday, but it's essentially overated as you can do this any other day, and you probably do not care about the holiday itself, or you're celebrating the benefits the holiday has brung such as vacation days.

And imagine if you do care about the holiday, shoudln't we be "celebrating" Earth Day everyday by being environmental friendly or just spend one day to cover for the whole year?

same for Major holidays, shouldn't you be patriotic everyday instead of just on independence day?

Holidays are fun, that's for sure, but the reason why we celebrate it, makes that any small or made up holiday can have meaning if you just put dedication into it.

I have a calendar that has every holiday imaginable on it. For example, the 10th is Peace Day and the 11th is Eat What You Want Day. I don't really pay attention to them, those kinds of things are just nice for a little bit of enjoyment in an otherwise routine day. As for Earth day and Independence day, yes, you should be patriotic and eco-friendly every day, but we're not. They're just a kick in the pants to remind you to do those things. Anniversaries are just really an excuse for a date or to do something together. In fact, if you think about it, every holiday promotes togetherness. Birthdays, st.patty's, even april fools are for friends to get together, anniversaries and v-day are for couples to get together, the winter holidays are a time for family to be together. That's what they're for, and for that, I like them.

You get a day off from school or work. That's reason enough to celebrate ;)

I'll go through explaining my view of various dates. Easter - I care not for certain traditions that surround this day regarding the Easter bunny and candy but care for this day for explicitly religious reasons - aka, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That said, I also keep the Good Friday before to remember the death of Christ. Christmas - I also care not for most of the traditions but do enjoy it not solely for religious reasons. I enjoy this time because it is one of the rare events of the year when my entire family gets together. That said, I also care for it because I on this day specifically seek to celebrate the incarnation of Jesus Christ - God becoming a man. My Birthday - I usually forget about it and even had to ask my mother recently how old I was. It is of no importance to myself though I do enjoy celebrating the birthdays of others for their own sake. Thanksgiving - Time to eat with the family and remember that I have received every good gift in this life by God's grace, not my own ability. Anniversaries - Similar to birthdays, I only care about them because of the others involved.

I celebrate holidays, so what? Even if there is pagan origins to them. See the JW's have it all wrong.
