Characters who legitimately have a cute personality?

IMO, there are so many females characters who are meant to have a cute endearing personality but end up failing miserably (Vanille in FFXIII comes to mind) and very few cases where the character actually manages to actually have a cute personality.

My question is, what characters in film, games, novels actually pull off a cute endearing personality?

I'll list two:

Maya from the Phoenix Wright games:

Her facial animations are really cute and I like how she always talks about the Steal Samauri and has a huge appetite and always makes Phoenix Wright pay for stuff. Though come to think of it, her lack of a voice might have something to do with the fact that she doesn't annoy me whatoever (the PW games are text-based). Still, her personality is endearingly odd and energetic without being over the top and annoying.

My second choice is Lyra from the His Dark Materials series, mostly Book 1 Lyra. Some tomboyish spunky characters can be kind of annoying, but it's cute in her case. I love the part when that locked up scholar says his snake daemon's tongue can taste probability and Lyra says "Mine too" without knowing what the heck he was talking about.

Ayumu Nishi zawa (for some reason censored Nishi zawa when I put it as one word:|) from Hayate no Gotoku (both the anime and the manga).

And I agree with TC, Vanille is incredibly annoying. >_>

I really liked her in the first game,so innocent and cute. Too bad she got so cold in the second game though...

Momoko Ryugasaki (Kyoko Fukada) for her role in Kamikaze Girls.

Oh & Muna Farah (Nisreen Faour) for her performance in Amreeka.

Rikku from Final Fantasy X comes to mind. Always very positive and upbeat. But never to the point where It's gag inducing.

Yukari of Persona 3 also bares a mention (If you like JRPG's you need to play this game btw.)

If you're not strictly talking about female characters, Vivi from Final Fantasy IX would also be on the list. As would Issun from Okami, the smart mouthed inch-tall samurai who doesn't seem to realize he's only an inch tall. :lol:

Oddly enough those two are the only two female characters that have ever (and i mean it - ever) lingered in my mind long after the games. More so for their personality then anything - weirdly - physically about them. They seem to have the right amount of femininity but get-the-job gumption when they need to get into action.

They're neither the super tough "I am a MAN-woman" girl that we see endlessly in video games, but neither are the oversexed female idols who don't need to wear armor in order to show the boobage.

To me Merrill is what i think Japanese audience thinks Vanille is in Final Fantasy 13. but with Merrill having a personality that i've actually have seen in the real world.

They both have the sort of shyness that i find attractive, but it doesn't come as stereotype either. at least it doesn't to me.

And Kaylee's kinda cute too.
