Sorry that isn't a good enough reason for anything to be legal. I'm not saying tobacco should or shouldn't be legal, but your argument is incredibly weak.

The answer would be the exact same for the drugs you listed. I was simply giving the OP the the reason for chewing tobaccos existence, which is simply market driven demand for the product.

im my experence of moving around alot has a kid ive noticed something. The lower income people seem to be the ones attracted to it. where as more high class people seem to be completely of put by it. But that's just my opinion.
I also fail to see why cigarettes are legal but marijuana isn't. Cigarettes seem like they'd be worse due to all of the tar and additives in it...

And if marijuana were ever legalized, and particular if it were ever to become as mainstream as tobacco, then I guarantee that it'll have "additives" as well. The second that marijuana cigarettes start getting mass produced in a factory, I guarantee that it'll have "additives" put into it.
I am not saying the government is "God" and should control everything. Im just perplexed something like this is maufactured and sold. Drugs like cocaine aren't actually manufactured by professional businesses and sold in stores. Yet, somthing indulged in carcinogens anddeadly chemicals is legally produced. From what I hear chewing tobacco even has glass in it. People chew on glass?:|

You could use the same reasoning for cigarettes. It only affects a different body part but the rest is pretty much the same. It's jsut because it's tradition.
Well the basic idea is for us smokers to get our tobacco fix without having to go outside I guess. Personally I can't stand the stuff but a lot of people I know do it, and it is a cheaper habbit then smoking.
If you ask me it should be illegal. It can kill you in the long run.

if chewing tobacco should be illegal than so should smoking cigarettes/cigars and so on. i know people that chew, including my uncle and a lot of my friends and one of my buddies dad's. i can say many have chewed for well over 5 years and they have had no cancer or any major issues. i have done it once but i just cant stand it because of how messy it is.
I don't see how people do it... it has got to be the nastiest drug out of all drugs.

not even close. alcohol is the nastiest legal drug. then probably weed, crack, meth, and so on that are illegal. chewing tobacco is only nasty in the way of using and the mess it leaves behind but when it comes to the effects and potential dangers that can be caused on others its the least likely to cause any pain to second hand anything.
cause why not? i've tried it 3 times, and each time, i got buzzed as ****, but also felt really dizzy and lightheaded at the same time so i didn't like it.
because people doing it does not hurt others. i swear only teenagers ever ask " why do people smoke / use tobacco" if you have ever tried it. you would know personally i have never tried, nor will ever chew tobacco, i dont want mouth cancer anytime soon. but smoking it. sure. once in a while.

Not to drag religion into this, but thats the basically the same reason some religious groups use to make their beliefs laws "We love them and don't want to see them suffer eternal damnation".
my dad chews it, and I think it's disgusting. It's gonna kill him. He even chews when hes sick, like right now.
